My Mom died over the weekend, and I've got to clear the farm and get rid of the animals. We just found out tonight so, as you might imagine, nothing is definite or decided. One sister has acreage and the SIL has a huge, fenced yard and everyone wants some animals, whether it's realistic, or not.
In order of size:
1 Black horse - not a walker, but one those with a different gait and a purebred. ~12 hands. She's 24 this year, but still kicking. I'll ask the sisters about giving the saddles/equipment away with the horse. She's very stubborn, but anyone with riding experience could probably handle her easily. I've ridden her a few times, but I'm no cowboy. Very sweet disposition. Would be a lap-horse if she found anyone with a big enough lap.
Sheep - 2 adult rams, two ewes and three lambs. Mostly Icelandic blood. Long kinky wool. Though both rams are feisty (they're rams), both have been handled/petted much and are confident with people. They need to be split up to prevent further inbreeding.
Dogs - 1 great Pyr, 1 collie/aust. shepherd mix. Both male, fixed, incredibly sweet and stunning good looks. Terrified of riding in cars. As much as I'd like to keep them both, I live in an apartment in DC. Brewster (the Pyr) is now ten and about three years past his expiration date, but still doing very well. Blue (for his one blue eye) is also ten, and incredibly calm and friendly. Both are terrified of thunder and gunshots.
Roman Tufted Geese - 3. Very puritanical. Can't stand it when anyone else is fighting or having sex. Due to their personalities, all named after my one sister with a similar bent.
Cat - Cappy, about 8 yrs. Fixed, Himalayan. Gorgeous (best coat I've ever seen on a long-hair cat) and a total weirdo. Has lived outside all his life, but loves to poop (indoors) in a litterbox. Go figure. Loves to sit on laps and watch campfires. A total firebug. Often stays away from the house, food and people for a week at a time.
Chickens - 24 Buff Orpington hens. Hatched June 13th of last year and hand-raised (by me). Though I haven't seen them since October, I've been told they're also "weird" and "friendly". Lots of big, brown eggs.
Please PM me if interested. I may be able to borrow internet access from a neighbor on a fairly regular basis, but guaranteed access, at the library, is fifteen miles and a mountain away. Pics available on request.
