Generators, propane for 18 months of Birdflu
Hi,
i figure you farmers know more about generators than city slickers.

Please tell me, which brand of electric generator would be best to provide a thousand watts , from propane tanks, for the long time of 18 months?

I am sure what wattage i need, from Consumer Reports article. The eighteen months idea is from april sixteenth article WPost, citing new Fed Report. Eighteen months as worst case of economic chaos.

Natural gas, no, because it is often pumped and that utility could shut down.

Thanks for the advice, hope we all get thru this OK.

1. Stock oil, too.
Those generators are hard on oil. Frequent oil changes will be a must.

3. People not showing up for work for fear of contracting a terminal disease
That's one factor. There are probably several more factors that could be drawn from that one.

5. yep that would be in case it was easily transmissible human-human
which is not the case, and to transmit it from bird to human, you have to practically sleep with the chickens.

there have been several outbreaks in mainland/western Europe both through wild birds and tame. Some villages have been quarantined, some poultry slaughtered, a farmer got a shot of tamiflu, a cat died. Some farmers got pissed at what they said "unnecessary precautions". Now we are in full migration period, and no new cases have been reported.

big deal

it shows that in a well organized, modern country, an outbreak can be rapidly contained without requiring martial law etc...

don't be a victim of fear mongering and don't feed the pigeons

6. A tank for 18 months! Relax, Here's a good cartoon on what
to expect from the bird flu from the guy who draws toothpaste for dinner:

BTW, its Spring. Flu season is over.

12. Spanish flu, Katrina, Black Plague, Hitler, ... all real, all happened
Spanish flu is the best analogy.

Delay, discount, and you will be caught looking at bare store shelves.

with millions of other unfortuantes, .. 2 million of whom, all americans , will die.

not counting the deaths from chaos, fires, cholera, looters.. which will kill five times as many.

only the cautious survive.. it has always been thus.

Nature cleans up the gene pool of the unwary.

13. ...And the overprepared
There were SMOKIN' deals out here on solar equipment and generators come February, March of 2000. Good prices on cabins, too, as city folks realized (a) the world didn't end, and (b) living without a hairdryer wasn't what it was cracked up to be. ;)
