I had very good luck with my turkeys this year. Bourbon Reds. I was just wondering how everyone else made out. If anyone wishes to share the info.

1. My onions and garlic did really good...

It was the first time I tried them, and after digging a hundred little holes to plant them and then dig them up, it will be the last...:)

My gourds didn't do well at all though. I had 5 vines and only 2 two gourds.

It seemed like a very wet/shady spring and the vines didn't start to take off midsummer. I don't think they had enough time to grow.

4. I want to start raising poultry next year. Would like to try some chickens

for eggs and several turkeys.... Was contemplating guinea fowl as they apparently love to eat ticks - and my property has an overabundance of them....

Have you any tips? Or is there a book or guide you would suggest? I've recently moved to 5 acres in the country.....

may want to reconsider your plans for raising chickens and turkeys together. As far as guineas are concerned, they are good "buggers", but they are a very vocal bird so I would advise only a couple to start with.

How hard is it to raise healthy chickens? I was going to let them pretty much have free roam, and give them a cozy roost to return to at night....

Is a good chance that "black-head" will rear it's ugly head by mixing turkeys with chickens. I can elaborate upon request. As long as your flock gets plenty of fresh water and good feed, chickens do quite well. If you need more info, please let me know and I will be glad to help.

Meanwhile, chickens are doing fine and I brought in 5 lambs last spring. The wether will hit the freezer when I turn the ram out with the ewes, and we'll see how spring lambing goes. Or summer lambing, at the rate I'm going, lol.
