Advice on air guns please.

Was once on the First Army rifle team--back when the hills first turned green-- and I'd like to get back into target shooting. I'd like to buy an air rifle to meet that need. Is there something under $150 that will group a half inch or less at 60 feet or so?

Looked at some crossman and the .177 break barrel at 1000 fps looks impressive but it sure would be nice to have a repeating CO2 powered gun. Does the 650 fps I see on the semi autos cost a lot in the way of accuracy and repeatability?

I realize that like hot rodding horsepower costs money so it's a matter of how fast ya' wanna' go, but I'd like to get the best compromise between performance and convenience.

Apply the same to pistols if ya' please.

1. How much do you want to spend?

The Daisy 853 is the model used by 4H in shooting competitions. It's a damned good little air gun. But be prepared to shuck out at least $300 on it.

2. $300 is about twice my max wish list. I was hoping to get a pistol

and rifle both for that. Guess I'll have to reduce my expectations a little.

Know of any CO2 repeating guns that are worth having? I want to get my wife interested and she has a very small attention span. If we have to stop, pump, insert pellet and then re-assume the shooting position she's not going to be there long.

I've tried the web but sites I find are dedicated to REALLY serious shooting or just making a sale.

3. Cheaper source for Daisy

I don't know how to insert a link in a note, but if you go to

www.odcmp.com, then select "sales" and then "air rifles", they have Daisy 853 for about $200.

The Daisy 888 is about $40 bucks more, and uses a rechargable gas cylinder so may be easier. It's really much more expensive because you need to buy a pump or fill up at a store.

Both are single shot.
