Shooter sets UK record of 2.67" for a 5-shot group at 1000 yards with a custom rifle in 7mm Winchester Short Magnum.

Photo showing the targets WAY out there across the valley...

Target closeup:

That's not a world record, though--the 1000 yard world record is currently held by a North Carolinian, Rich DeSimone, at 1.56" for 5 shots:

but by any measure, 2.67"/0.25-arcminute precision at that range is still DARN good shooting. But I thought the UK article was especially interesting because UK shooters are such an endangered species, and it was good to see some press on the shooting sports in the UK--and I love that laminated stock on Mr. Bottomley's rifle...

1. Nice find!
That's a really interesting article, thanks for posting it. That is impressive shooting by any stretch of the imagination, but I think its even more so because it's in the UK, where there always seems to be some kind of weather condition that could very easily affect trajectory, etc.

My first thought was that you had made a typo, I haven't seen much movement in the UK shooting world in the recent years. Glad to see they are alive and well!

2. The bullet is still supersonic, too
That must be why it's so accurate. It hasn't had to make the transition through the sound barrier. A couple of assumptions through the ballistics calculator give about 1,450 feet per second at a thousand yards, assuming a slick bullet like a Ballistic Silvertip. About Mach 1.25 or so.

Nice shootin'!
