http://www.surplusrifle.com/videowmv/sks100.wmvOnce you get it disassembled to that point, you can probably just take all the hardware off the old stock and put it on the new stock, if the new stock doesn't come with it.
My wife owns a 1952 Tula (Russia) SKS, with the Soviet star on the receiver cover. It's a fine-looking rifle (looks new), and she enjoys shooting it.
You are probably already aware of this, but if you make any changes other than the Monte Carlo stock, you may need to play the 18 USC 922(r) parts count game. American made parts to satisfy 922(r) are available from www.tapco.com. They also sell MIL-STD-1913 rails, adjustable stocks, etc.
