Geocaching
Anyone ever tried Geocaching or even heard about it? A friend got me into it last week and I've prolly hiked 20 miles searching for these things...they are everywhere, urban & rural. Check out your area http://www.geocaching.com/ If you enjoy the outdoors and like playing hide&seek, all you need is a hand-held GPS and some good shoes. Interested to see if I'm the only one at DU into this...

1. Yup
I haven't done one in a few months but it's a great way to get out there and particularly with my son. We've done many in New England, I've had the chance to do some in Arizona, the UK, and Sweden.

Fun stuff...we like the ones around us that combine finding caches and puzzles via visiting historical sites and using what you see there.

2. I do a similar thing -- letterboxing. You follow clues, not a GPS, but
it is very similar. In fact, once when I was out hunting down a letterbox, my hubby was standing by a tree and said, "Hey, what's this?" and pulled a plastic film container out of a tree. It was a geocache we didn't even know was there! I soon found my letterbox, too, so it was a great day overall.

3. I read about a stash in a park I visited in Louisiana. It described
a place that I knew well, and I found the box. Another was supposed to be in the park as well, but I never could find it.

I haven't tried the sport lately.

4. I have done a lot of it and I love it.
I particularly like finding those little travel bugs and dropping them off somewhere else. It really has taken me into some areas that I would probably not have gone and made me pay attention in a way i never did.

Highly recommended!

5. I've just recently gotten into it, but it's led me to places I'd never seen
even though they're within walking distance of my home. It seems that a lot of cach hiders are good at finding particularly interesting local features and drawing attention to them.

I prefer the wilderness caches to the urban, but even the city ones and the park-and-grabs create an interesting tour...
