Done wore my arm out jerkin' yesterday!
No I wasn't preventing prostate cancer you pevs, wadda ya think this is the lounge?

I'm talkin' about this kind of jerkin'

The kind that brings all the basses to the boat

We've had a week straight of warm weather and the water temps have gone up almost ten degrees in that time. Bass are flooding the shallows and the jerk bait bite has been fantastic.

How's everyone elses spring fishing been going?

1. I caught a bass much like yours on Thursday
I was using a crappie jig tipped with part of a nightcrawler. Not something that would be overly appealing to a bass.

Too bad I had to toss him back. Bass season doesn't open here until May 17.

2. That's funny. I caught three crappie while fishing for bass that day.

Two on the jerkbait and one on a small plastic worm. I've never specifically fished for crappie, but I catch them from time to time while bass fishing. They are becoming more common around here. I hear they are good eating.

3. Caught a dozen white bass earlier this month -- all too small...
The white bass were running and had schooled shad along the north shore of Lake Buchanan in Central Texas, near Tow. Cast & retrieved using a small weedless spoon. Fun, but I wish I could have kept a few legal ones. Folks who had boats got into some stripers as well, two over 6 lbs.

I'm hoping to get a chance fishing this next weekend. I'm really beginning to feel this gas crunch and inflation and it has slowed down my fishing.

Looks like you got into 'em! What lure is that in your picture?

5. I work at a marina that has a crappie fishing barge. They also sponsor

a weekly bass tournament. The tournament takes Florida Bass from all over the lake (5-12 pounds) weighs them in and then releases them at the weigh point, about 50 yards from the crappie barge.

It's funny as hell to see an un-suspecting crappie novice tie into one of those monster fish.

Lake record is 13+ pounds!

I'm glad the largemouth don't get to 30 pounds--the jet skiers would be in severe danger . . .

On edit, just checked and the new lake record as of 4/8/08 is 14.45 pounds.

6. Wish the bass got that big up north here
Six pounds is a big one, and eight is huge. The state record is only ten pounds. The "growing season" if you will, is so short up here that a three pound bass might be ten years old.
