Single action revolver fans

Just picked up a Ruger old model flat top 3 screw.
30 carbine. Less than 50 rds have been thru it.
Low 4 digit serial number. That gives me a pair of old 30's now.
Now i just need an old 256 Hawk-eye, and I'm complete.

they're about as rare as hens teeth.

Was there a problem with them, and are they safe to shoot?

I have a newer Ruger Vaquero stainless with the ivory pimp grips I'd like to move, anyone interested???

The only problem i knew of, was the case would try to back out. I believe Ruger modified the rear of the frame to take care of the problem on the production pistols. For those who don't know what the Hawk-eye is, it's a single shot revolver.
I've got a Bisley Vaquero in 45 Long Colt 5 1/2 inch, polished stainless.
Love the Bisley grip, hate the Bisley hammer, pinches the web of the hand on quick follow up shot. Learned that hunting hogs. Lets just say there was a small moment of panic, when the hammer wouldn't lock back. Seems the web of my hand was in the way.

There seems to be an awful lot of used firearms out there with just a few rounds put threw them. So why do so many sellers buy new guns that they do not end up using? Kind of like buying a used car that was only driven to church once a week to church.

The pistol was purchased from a friend of mine. The same friend who was with me when he bought that pistol. The same friend who borrowed a box of shell for that pistol from me. That same box of shells was with that pistol when i purchased it. I don't know about your friends but i do know about mine, their not liars.

(So why do so many sellers buy new guns that they do not end up using?)
Ever hear of investment.
I have many guns I've purchased new and they still sit in my cabinets unfired.

8. You did not mention ...

... that you knew the owner. When I go shopping for second hand firearms it is usually at one of our local gun shows. Every single pistol I look at had a couple magazines run through it but was otherwise new, according to the sellers. These are not investment items, they are run of the mill handguns being sold for less than retail. Obviously they were used and the sellers were puffing.

By the way, expressing skepticism is not the same as calling someone a liar. There is a difference between doubting an assertion and being convinced of a deliberate attempt to deceive.

You have to be careful when shopping for firearms, especially handguns. State and local law enforcement agency's auction off their used weapons or trade them in, some of these weapons have had thousands of rounds through them. Theres a gentleman in San Angelo TX that buys used LE weapons, cleans them up, replaces parts and re blues. He takes the weapons to various gun shows and try to sell them as 90%-95% used guns. I've seen unsuspecting buyers purchase revolvers that looked 95%, yet were so out of time that a person couldn't even stand beside it, due to shaving lead.
I would caution anyone against buying guns at a gun show unless you really know what your doing. I deal mostly with a circle of long time friends who also are collectors.

The dealer i'm talking about go's by the name Bearded Trader on Guns america and other trade sites. Use caution!

A 3-screw Ruger .357 and a SuperBlackhawk.

I still keep a 6" S&W 29 and 4" 686 for my wheelguns, though.

I'm mostly a Glock man now....sorry...

ASS for selling my S&W 686 4". I wanted to replace it recently, but they are worth more than gold now. I sold mine for $275 in 2000 last I looked they are over $400.

Bearcat seems like a strange name. I would not want to rely on a 0.22lr revolver to repel either bears or cougars.

But thats about as close as it gets.

Old models have.

Smaller frame than the single six.
No transfer bar safety.
Brass trigger guard.
fixed sights only.
4 inch barrel.

Haven't shot or held the new models.

... from the catalogue that New Model Bearcats have that new safety. Otherwise, they are the same as what you describe for the Old Models.

18. Convertable models

I've decided to "unload" my P-95 pistol infavor of a revolver because after renting one, I found it much easier to shoot. The added weight of the revolver made it much more consistent with much less kick, even though I was using 0.38 sp. cartidges rather than 9mm.

Yesterday, a gun dealer was trying to sell me something as usual when I mentioned that Ruger has a single action model with two interchangeable cylinders: one for 0.357 mag./0.38 sp. and the other for 9mm. He was skeptical and said that if something does a lot of things, it probably does not do any one thing well. Since the barrel diameter is the same for all three rounds, it seems to me that it could do them all well. I like the convertable idea because 9mm is pretty cheap and with both cylinders it accepts 3 of the most common handgun rounds. I also was considering rimfire models that convert between 0.22lr and 0.22WMR, again, because they would be economical at the shooting range. Another dealer near here has a rimfire Colt Peacemaker with a convertable barrel which I understand is no longer in production.

THE QUESTION, therefore, is this: are convertable models a compromise in function, or do they work as well as similar non-convertable models?

19. I have 3 convertible Rugers

1 in 357 magnum and 38 special, I have never used the 38 special cylinder, just download the 357 brass.

1 in 45 Long Colt, and 45 ACP. Stainless Steel
This is my favorite, i shoot the 45 ACP for most of my plinking and varmint work. When hunting larger game such as hogs or deer i switch to the 45 long Colt and use only factory Corbon or Buffalo Bore ammunition. These rounds usually exceed most 44 Mag loads.
As far as i know, this pistol is a one of a kind. The 7 1/2 inch stainless Black-hawk was only offered in 45 long colt, i sent it back to Ruger to have a stainless 45 ACP cylinder made for it.

The accuracy is the same with either cylinder.

1 in 22/22mag. Now this one will show an accuracy difference, with the 22mag being the more accurate round. I believe the 22 has a smaller OD than the 22 mag, .222 compared to .224 for the mag. That and velocity and rifling needs may be the cause.

20. I forgot my favorite reason for shooting a revolver.

Picking up the damn brass.
I just carry a coffee can with me, and dump the cylinder directly into the can.
You'll remember that one when you get older, saves the back.
I've also found revolvers to be more accurate than most Semi-autos.

Every 22lr/22mag combo I've owned, shot better with the 22mag. Theres a couple thousands difference in bullet diameter, with the 22mag having the tighter bore.

If you've never seen a Low Wall, you owe it to yourself to check them out. In my opinion their the finest single shot rife ever made.
