Just bought a 1957 Sea King 10hp

anyone have any experience with this motor. Was dirt cheap and seems to run great. I know it was made by Gale a division of OMC(johnso/evinrude) for monkey wards.

Your basic Johnson/Evinrude two stroke. Anybody who stocks parts and services those venerable motors should be able to maintain it for you. Unless there's some major mechanical issue they last forever. Mix the gas/oil right, keep fuel additive in the tank and run the carb dry at the end of the season and it'll serve you well until the cows come home.

They're really simple, like a rock. A rock is a great tool for driving tent stakes. If, by chance, you break the rock in half you'll have two rocks to pound tent stakes.

3. Talked to an old guy that only works on

johnrudes today. He looked it up in his book and said it is a 1959 and takes 16:1 not the 24:1 I was told. Glad I talked to him. Getting ready to take it out on Sandusky bay. If the wind isn't blowing, I'll dash out on to Lake Erie a mile or two in my 14 ft Smoker Alaskan for some perch. I have a little 3 and half I'll toss in the bow for an emergency.

This web article about catching 150, 10 to 17 inch crappies a day in April on the bay has me really pumped up. Hell, 25 or 50 would put me in heaven.
