Not 20 minutes after his son left, Dr. Brown saw a hefty buck chasing three does. That’s what bucks do in November’s rutting season.
Hunting most years since he was 18, Dr. Brown knew what to do with his old 30.06 Remington Woodmaster semi-automatic and the big buck just 75 feet away. He had killed 18 deer before this one.
“When the buck came in, I banged him right in the head and he went down on the spot,” he said. “The bullet never came out the other side. It was a lucky shot.”
