Wooo Hooo! First day of fishing!

:bounce: The lakes finally opened up and I put the boat in today. The fishing was a little slow, I only caught two smallmouth, one three pounds the other two, but considering the water temps were in the low forties I figure that wasn't doing too badly.

The day was beautiful. Warm, sunny, birds singing, ducks everywhere, mergansers, scaup and the ubiquitous mallards, a blue heron and a lone osprey sailed by too. And I had the lake to myself. (That won't last long.) Lack of fish not withstanding it felt pretty damn good to get the rod in my hands again. :bounce:

1. You must live in

a state that allows fishing of game fish all year. Where I live we have open dates that we have to go by. I fish for Smallmouth and Largemouth primarily but I have to wait until May 7. What state do you live in?

2. I'm up NH way

Fishing is pretty much year round here. There are some waters designated "Trout Ponds" that don't open until the 4th Saturday in April but other than that if you can get a line in the water you can fish.

3. I'm on the

border of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Wisconsin opens May 7 and Minnesota opens May 28th for Bass. I believe the reason is for Minnesota which usually opens Bass in June is to wait until the post spawn period to open up Bass. Although states that open Bass early or that do not have closed seasons seem not to have a problem with Bass populations. Having said that I can't wait for the season to open.
