Best-selling Author, Lecturer, and Peace Activist Marianne Williamson to Speak in Minneapolis June 9th

St. Paul, MN, June 2, 2005 -- Marianne Williamson, author of four New York Times #1 bestsellers on spiritual healing and peace, will give a free public lecture on Thursday, June 9, at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church in Minneapolis.

Williamson has given thousands of lectures over the past 20 years. Her topic on Thursday is a "Pep Talk for Peacemakers" in support of a cabinet-level Department of Peace.

She has published eight books, including Everyday Grace, A Return to Love, Illuminata, A Woman's Worth, and Healing the Soul of America. She also edited Imagine: What American Could Be in the 21st Century, a compilation of essays by some of America's most visionary thinkers.

Williamson has appeared on CNN with Representative Dennis Kucinich (D)of Ohio discussing the Department of Peace, which he introduced as legislation in fall 2004 and will reintroduce this September. She has also appeared as a guest on Oprah, Larry King Live, Good Morning America, and Charlie Rose.

In 1989, she founded Project Angel Food, a meals-on-wheels program that serves homebound people with AIDS in the Los Angeles area. Today, Project Angel Food serves more than 1,000 people daily.

Williamson also founded The Peace Alliance, an international network of peace activists. The mission of The Peace Alliance is to harness the power of nonviolence as a social force for good. The Peace Alliance is currently steering the campaign to establish a United States Department of Peace.

Williamson's book Everyday Grace: Having Hope, Finding Forgiveness and Making Miracles, was published by Riverhead Books (Nov 2002) and quickly reached #1 on the New York Times Best-Seller List (Dec 2002).

Her new book, The Gift of Change: Spiritual Guidance for a Radically New Life, was released from Harper Collins in November 2004.

The event is sponsored by Department of Peace – Minnesota.

1. Cool. I have a friend who is researching the history of the DoP
that is was first suggested back in the late 1700's in the time of Washington!

I'll try to get her to share her research and will post it here...

We don't have a DU group here on the Dept of Peace do we? Wish we could add that to this forum......
