Kerry Responds to Bush Speech at Military Officers Association of America

“If President Bush had unleashed the American military to do the job at Tora Bora four years ago and killed Osama bin Laden, he wouldn’t have to quote this barbarian’s words today. Because President Bush lost focus on the killers who attacked us and instead launched a disastrous war in Iraq, today Osama bin Laden and his henchmen still find sanctuary in the no-man’s land between Afghanistan and Pakistan, where they still plot attacks against America. In a feat of incompetence and ideology, this administration has chosen to fight the primary battle in the wrong place in the wrong way.

“President Bush says Osama bin Laden and the terrorists plan to target America’s ‘weak points.’ That’s why it’s even more unacceptable that while the president gives speeches, our borders remain porous and our ports, chemical plants and railways remain insecure. Over here, our weak points remain weak because this administration has had the wrong priorities. And over there, Afghanistan is slipping back into chaos, Pakistan is one coup away from becoming a radical Islamic state with nuclear weapons, Iran is closer to a nuclear arsenal, and Iraq has become a recruitment poster for terror. Only Donald Rumsfeld could call this a plan for victory. A new document may get the Administration through the next news cycle, but it will not win the war on terror. We need to change course, not more of the same.”

that would require the Bush Admin to figure out if we are indeed in a civil war in IRaq, and if so, to come out with a plan for what to do.

If no civil war, then what are we doing to protect IRaq and our troops.

8. I was just watching the CBS news

and they showed Bush's speech, but not this. Meanwhile, ABC is about to run the Republican "story" on 9/11 commercial free (apparently)... and people wonder why people don't know the Democrats' message? Please...

Equal time is a myth on network news. Having Tom Friedman on to sort of rebutt Bush is a poor substitute for the strong words of leaders like Kerry.

Today, President Bush followed in the steps of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld by comparing war critiques to the Nazis of the past, and the al Qaeda of the present. Tonight, Keith Olbermann responds with a special comment on “Countdown.” You can catch Olbermann’s full response at 8 p.m. ET on MSNBC, but here’s a sneak peek:

The attempt to link, by the simple expediency of one word—“media”—the honest, patriotic, and indeed vital questions and questioning from American reporters, with the evil of al Qaeda propaganda.

That linkage is more than just indefensible. It is un-American.

Mr. Bush and his colleagues have led us before to such waters.

that is a sign that they knew that there could be a "Sinclair" like backlash to the sponsors. This however means that ABC is the sole sponsor - because the forgone revenue is their equivilent way to pay.

18. But on the other hand, on ABC's news tonight--

they broke a story about how Pakistan is giving bin Laden and Al Qaeda a safe haven in a northern border province. Keith O. referred to ABC's story tonight also, saying if true, it really flies in the face of *'s speech today. Keith is also so right-- that this kind of rhetoric from * just emboldens and enlarges bin Laden and his crew. I mean, when you compare a guy to someone responsible for over 6 million deaths?? Anyway, I say it backfires, because all people think is, "well why haven't you caught him yet?"

ABC also had Richard Clarke on, and George Stephanopoulis, and they and Gibson were a lot less forgiving of *'s speech than Couric's report. Maybe their news dept. is separate from their entertainment dept. Hope so.

But what I really can't forgive * for is for actually reading quotes from terrorists! What is he now, a junior-ranger terrorist himself, doing his masters' bidding? His purpose is exactly the same as theirs: he wants us to be terrified!

The request to 'dumb things down' is kind of insulting IMHO. I don't think there is anything wrong with the way Sen. KErry talks now. (That's why my reply was pure silliness.)

crap poop! They continue to make claims unsupported by any facts (80% of the electorate can't understand a speech. Gimme a break!). You could show them polls, pictures, etc., but they will still spew crap poop!

25. They did polls after the debates in '04.

The American people decided that Kerry won and they did so without the aid of a translator. They saw the guy speak his mind and they told pollsters that he clearly knew what he was talking about. I don't think most people had any trouble dtermining who the smart guy was and who the boob was.

The problem was with the people who didn't watch the debates. And the ones who believed in the lies. A lot of people who want to go after the 'dumb guy vote' are willing to give up the extra six million voters who showed up at the polls in '04 for Kerry in order to get these other voters.
