Wonk alert: Flynt Leverett on Cspan 2 |

Talking about Middle East policy. This guy is ex-State Dept. (under Colin Powell): he then resigned over policy differences and became Kerry's foreign policy advisor during the campaign. He also just wrote the cover story for the September issue of The American Prospect.

2. his article in the American Prospect was also really good. |

I should have said he was "a" foreign policy adviser for Kerry. JK doubtless had a bunch of them.
The gist of the article was that the bushies are doing foreign policy way different than a Kissinger-type model. Their way of doing things amounts to a "great experiment"--one that is now shown as failing. And the way they refuse to talk leaves no outlet for moderates in these countries to do anything positive. The radical (violent) elements then posess the most control over events--and we see the result. We have to use diplomacy and talk to these countries! Argh.
