Nice piece in DKos on Lieberman and the Dem Senators
that I commend to your attention. It is clear that many national Dems are very reluctant to cut the ties to Joe Lieberman. David Sirota gives props to those Sens, like Kerry and Lautenburg who are fighting for Democracy and not just the membership of the Democratic Seantors club.

Thanks for pointing it out!

Luckily, there are some Democratic senators like Sens. John Kerry (D-MA) and Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) who seem to understand why it is important to do everything they can to help Lamont become the next U.S. Senator from Connecticut. Unlike some others, they are sick of losing elections, tired of seeing Democrats be complicit in the Bush agenda, and appreciative of the fact that voters are actually asserting themselves against the Washington establishment.

oh, yeah.

I needed this, esp. after getting a look at this:
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2006/09/06/in_connecticut_poll_finds_lamont_way_behind.html

In Connecticut, Poll Finds Lamont Way Behind
A new Public Opinion Strategies (R) poll finds Ned Lamont (D) trailing Sen. Joe Lieberman (I), 51% to 35%, in the Connecticut U.S. Senate race. Republican Alan Schlesinger receives 4% of the vote, while 10% remain undecided.

Key finding: When asked which candidate is running a negative campaign, 40% say Lamont compared to 19% for Lieberman.

Editor's Note: Though a Republican firm, this is the Lieberman campaign's internal poll.

5. Lieberman has benefited from much good press. Lamont was made to
look like a terrible man for taking on Lieberman and then, there are those nasty, way out of touch bloggers, who went after Lieberman. Oh, and lets not forget the Republicans, Hannity is always putting in a good word for Lieberman. With all this mounted against Lamont, I would not expect great poll numbers. I am hoping that as the press on Lieberman dies down and Lamont is able to get more of a message out, his numbers will go up.
Lieberman knew what he was doing. he is playing the good guy in the middle. That still doesn't change that he has done damage to our Democratic message and has been wrong on every aspect of the Iraq War.He should have moved on gracefully. His strategy shows what kind of person he is, all for himself. His recent behavior makes me wonder whether some of his stances in the past were more based on ego and attention then they were on good policy and direction.

2. Very nice diary
Just reading how those bastards applauded Lieberman upon his return makes me want to throw up. I honestly hope they all get voted out of office. The really do disdain the primary voters and democracy, don't they?
Thank goodness for principled and honest people like our Senator :-)

3. I couldn't find the link to the Millbank article referenced downstream
Where he made a snarky comment about Kerry's "cold" comments on Lieberman - and that that showed how Kerry paid him back for his support in 2004.

If anyone has the link, we should respond:
- Lieberman was not very supportive, unless speaking well of the US war in Iraq in FL counts as help.
- It ignore July 2006, when Lieberman mischaracterized his amendment while speaking on Republican time.
- Kerry's first comment was nice, he attacked Lieberman AFTER Lieberman attacked him

6. What's up with
this shit? Fuck Milbank. Seriously.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/06/AR2006090601808.html

"Joe Lieberman is out of step with the people of Connecticut," John Kerry (D-Mass.) harrumphed on the Sunday talk shows. To highlight their embrace of Lamont, Reid and Schumer invited him to meetings at the Capitol yesterday.

Emphasis mine.

That snarky little dweeb.

7. Hey -- that's an outright lie!! I saw that TV appearance, and I can tell
you -- there was absolutely NO harrumphing whatsoever!!!!!

THIS is an example of the media concerted effort to paint John Kerry as "unlikeable" what with his harrumphing all over the place. Who the hell would want to hang out with Senator Harrumpher?

9. It also undercuts the seriousness of the situation.
Lamont won that primary for very clear and very legitimate reasons, and JK articulated that on This Week. JK understands that voters in CT want a change, and he wants to help them get it. It's just irresponsible to translate his take on the whole thing as being disgruntled or pissy.

10. Geez!
Too bad he didn't use some of that snark on the stupid, repetitive inaccuracies that Bush and Cheney were spewing in 2004!
