3. I’m prepared to kick their ass from one end of America to the other.”
Thanks for pointing out this article in the Examiner, Ron. It was a great read. And I really loved this line from Kerry concerning the Swift Boat Liars: “I’m prepared to kick their ass from one end of America to the other.” He totally rocks!

And Ron, you are right about Europe when you say: "In Europe it is common for opposition leaders to lose before developing enough support for their party to win." Merkel wouldn't be chancellor in Germany and Chirac wouldn't be president in France if it wasn't that way. And these are only two examples in a long list. I didn't know too much about American politics in 2004 and assumed that it would be the same in the USA and Kerry would automatically become the opposition leader after he lost to Bush. I was stunned when Reid was elected Senate minority leader and Kerry was pushed aside from the party leadership. As someone used to European politics that seemed very strange to me.

4. The surprise must have been compounded
when you saw Reid speak. Here, until recently, the losing candidate was considered the titular head of the party. Gore disappearing for 18 months left the party without leadership in 2001. Clinton, as an ex=President was pretty quiet.

This was a powerplay on the part of the Clintons. Kerry likely didn't want the Senate leadership position, but I'm not sure if he would have got it if he fought for it. (Which is telling because he was VERY VERY clearly the person chosen by the Democrats across the country.) The strangest thing is that there are some people who act as though Kerry, the man choosen by the people in the Democratic party to be President, needs Reid's (choosen by the people of Nevada to be Senator) permission to speak on issues.

5. Spread the word
Technorati currently has this post listed as the number one post under What Everyone Is Blogging About. I have no idea how it made the list, but the more buzz that can be created about the post I assume the more likely it will remain there.

Meanwhile, the read from the lefty freeper compound: http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2006/9/15/75812/3589

Only 19 comments so far, almost all of them whiny and ridiculous. Some people are just so comfy in all their self-righteousness...

I'm going to link to your post, Ron.
