Gifts

A week ago, I had the most amazing, uplifting, unforgettable day. I attended three events here in California headlined by Senator John Kerry. The day, and the people I met were such a gift, and I want to begin by thanking Kerrygoddess for all she did to make last Monday, the day John Kerry was in California, so special for me. Among the many gifts I received on Monday:


• KG telling me…on my cell phone en route to the Angelides rally…that I would get to meet Senator Kerry. And I didn’t run off the road. :)

• Meeting Kerrygoddess. One of my heroes.

• Not totally missing the rally for Phil Angelides for Governor of California .

• Getting my picture taken with the Senator! Thank you, KG.

• Being told (by John Kerry) “Thank you for what you do every day in the classroom.” So nice to hear. Sometimes we teachers feel very unappreciated.

• Driving thru Beverly Hills and Malibu on a perfectly beautiful Monday…not a cloud in the sky.

• Looking up and suddenly seeing the Senator and Marvin in a grocery store parking lot, looking for food before the speech. Never in my life…

• Visiting Pepperdine University for the first time. Beautiful !


• The Pepperdine Speech. There’s something about being in the room…

• The enthusiasm of the Pepperdine Young Democrats at the reception. They’ll remember this day forever, too.


Sometimes, because life is often too hectic, we take gifts such as these for granted. This day would not have happened for me, had it not been for my new friend (I hope), kerrygoddess. Thank you, KG, for all you did to make last Monday such a memorable day for me. I’ll never forget the day, or your great generosity.

it's good to hear Kerry get a good reception at Pepperdine which is known for being conservative. i find that many who may not agree with him politically do end up with a positive impression of him when they actually get to see him.

YvonneCa it was my pleasure! It really was a picture perfect day... I guess it was so perfect I kept forgeting to take pictures. Duh - we both should have gotten a couple of the two of us together. We'll have to do it again now and hopefully next time he's here a few more of the LA area folks will join us!

...and my video didn't come out...thank goodness Pepperdine posted it. We definitely must do this again the next time he visits. It would be great fun if we could get a group together!

Your beautiful account really made me feel some of the happiness you felt. I know the speech was the best part, but I loved the image of seeing JK and Marvin in the parking lot!!!

It's wonderful when someone whose life is as admirable as John Kerry's tells you he admires what you do and, since I think teaching is one of the most important things humans do, I agree with him. :-)

I hope you have many more gifts in store in the future and that we'll get to hear about more adventures!
