Did anybody else see Road to the White House !?
Edited on Sun Sep-24-06 11:02 PM by ginnyinWI
They had 20 min. of JK doing a meet 'n greet in Iowa--at the Sommerset Winery on the 15th! I was just scrolling though that show and he was in the last half hour, sandwiched between Dodd and McCaskill. Really nice, camera following him around as he chats with supporters. There might be another repeat coming up tonight (and it's in the last half hour), and will be online too I'm sure.

2. yes it was!
I was kind of ho-hum, sifting through a few shows I regularly record on the DVR, and just as I was about to give up on RTWH, there he was, bright as a new penny! A nice way to end the weekend.

...with John Kerry in California on Monday...and now finishing up the week on T.V. He is 'bright as a new penny", isn't he? :D

4. these things are what really secured my support for JK
i liked him overall, his record and proposals. but this got me to see a personal side that was very appealing. cspan showed similar campaign events with other candidates and i found JK to be the most appealing, more so than those the media talk up as being good with the crowds.

5. absolutely charismatic
Just take everything the RW says about him and reverse it! Aloof, my foot. He stood there and talked to one guy about Iraq for the longest time, and then started talking about goats--the guy is a goat farmer and JK's stepson raises goats! What kind of person who is aloof talks about goats? I think he really won the guy over, too.

7. That is so cute
Even baby goats know a compassioate leader when they see one. (And we only gave him credit for babies, dogs and horses liking him!)

9. Thanks for alerting on this
I agree taking every RW slur around 180 degrees does get pretty close to who he is. It kind of makes sense as supposedly they identify the candidate's strengths and attack them. In Kerry's case, they had a lot to work with. As to aloofness, it's clear he's not, though there is likely a lot of truth to Teresa's explanation that sometimes it's that he is extremely busy doing many things.

Reading this this morning and listening to the more negative than positive views of Clinton's Fox appearance, I am incredibly impressed by Kerry. This week, the view of him between this and other coverage of that Iowa trip and the Pepperdine speech is that of a very good person. The RW has hit him with lies and dirision, and it is good and had to take enormous will power for him not to respond in kind. DU's reaction to Clinton's temper (even though it was justified) and to Kerry's dignified control may be completely opposite the reaction of the rest of the population.

10. No, I missed it. I check in here for Kerry news. I seldom watch TV.
I will have to see if it is on again in my area. If not, maybe I can view it on line.

Did you ever wonder why there are no Hillary Road to the White Houses? I would like to see how see does in one of these settings.

13. Thanks!
We need an intro post from ya (No pressure. An Intro post just tells us where you are from, roughly, and what brought you here. A lot of us answer vaguly, like I usually say I am from Northern MAss, near the NH border and such.)

This would be great. Again, welcome here.

16. brief intro
My move to eastern MA was unexpected (long story, best told over drinks), and a huge career risk (great for family, great for creativity, but. . ) . Happy to chat offline with any or all philanthropists and saviors.

By the way, I don't know how to contact people to give my address for birthday card. . don't want to post it on the blog. . please advise on how to do this. just assume I know nothing about logistics of this. I didn't understand last reply on this subject, don't know what "PM" is, etc.

Knew basically nothing about Sen. Kerry until I moved here, but signed on, with enthusiasm, to his 2004 campaign, once I attended his Hardball interview in fall 2003, "This guy is the real thing", I thought to myself at the time. . and that was BEFORE "The Real Deal" slogan started to appear. I still consider him to be head and shoulders above all other past , present, or potential candidates, the best candidate to appear on the horizon in decades; to me his qualities are so obvious that I just go crazy with people who don't get it. I think he's been brilliant in the way he's handled the last 2 years, and I'm very proud that he and Ted Kennedy are my senators.

17. You can send a messgae via PM
There is a little envelope icon next to the name of a person posting in DU. If you click on that, you get a within DU e-mail function that allows you to send a private message to someone. You can test it on me, if you like.

I agree, never post anything too personal on line. This is a great function of DU and allows you to communicate one-on-one with some people, as you see fit.

Great story, and boy oh boy did you ever come to the right group.

Oh wow -- he's definitely one of the best -- going from tough policy talk to goats so fluidly and naturally shows he's one of the best pols around. I also heard people talk about supporting him in '08!! Yes!! Wonderful.

22. Was that the goat farmer who said that or somebody else?
I couldn't see a "look" but mind you it's a teeny tiny screen. What I did hear was a fast and stern "No". That's what you get for being rude.

27. Yeah, but did you see the way that Kerry did not walk away
He kept talking to the guy, kept working the conversation back around to the common sense viewpoint. Wow! Now that's a gift. I adored the way the goat farmer sort of followed the Senator for a second, cuz he had to tell him that he had two kids in the military. Boy, did that ever elicit a 'soft response' and a different look. That was a real nice moment.

Wow, that looked like a fun event. And, ahm, please, he's running.

28. That was impressive - I went back to watch it again
I hadn't realized that that was the same guy - but unless he has a twin who wore the same shirt, he was. It amazes me that he continued talking to him beyond the polite but firm "No " and saying we need to talk common sense etc. But then he joked around about the goats. It almost seemed that he went back to say his kids were in the service - almost because he regretted the rudeness. (He was pretty beligigerant through the whole Iraq conversation.)

21. Thanks so much
How anyone could say either that he "didn't connect" or "he's aloof" is beyond me. I loved near the very end when the candidate said something about his son running the campaign, but there was no campaign yet. Kerry's response was so friendly when he advised him he had to say he was doing a great job.

He really was good with the goat farmer - who clearly didn't agree with him on Iraq. I liked that he in a very low key way simply explained things - didn't minimize the problems or try to sell him that everything would immediately be better. I loved how animated he was speaking of the goats. He clearly likes animals. (The son-in-law must be John Heinz because he said Bucks county.)

I liked the lady who said she still thought he would be President Kerry. I hate our media who hid this funny, nice guy while telling people they would love having a beer with person who was always a bully.
