Dear Island Blue,
This isn't a time for rhetoric. The johnkerry.com community has been working and building towards the 2006 elections for almost two years now. You know what this is all about.
The question is what we're going to do about it.
We're just days away from the all-important September 30 fundraising deadline for high-stakes Senate races all across America. Short of Election Day itself, this is the most critical deadline we'll face in our effort to win some of the closest Senate races in America.
The amount of money our candidates have on hand by midnight on September 30 will determine how well-prepared they are for the stretch-run -- the final six weeks of these elections.
Will they be ready to drive to victory, or will they fall prey to the relentless October attacks of the Rove Republicans? Your decision to act now can answer that crucial question.
Impact Key Senate Races Before the September 30 Deadline.
With the crucial September 30 deadline almost here, we're focusing on four key Senate candidates.
In Maryland, Ben Cardin -- a leading opponent of the Bush policy in Iraq, a leader in the fight against privatizing Social Security, and a candidate with a 30-year record of fighting for Maryland's families -- is taking on Michael Steele. Steele was personally recruited to run by George W. Bush and Karl Rove. We have to act now if we want to make sure a reliable Rove Republican doesn't get elected to go to Washington and promote the Bush agenda in the Senate.
In Montana, Jon Tester -- a third-generation family farmer and President of the Montana Senate -- is running against Conrad Burns and the special interests Burns represents in the Senate. Burns' close ties to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff have exposed his special interest dealings. With your help now, we can make sure that Burns, who has taken more money from the oil and gas industry than any candidate running for Congress this year, isn't bailed out by the special interests in the final weeks of this election.

In Virginia, Jim Webb, who served as a Marine in Vietnam and as Secretary of the Navy, has the political momentum against Republican incumbent George Allen, who has fumbled his way through this election season by just being himself. With your help now, we can make sure that one of the "rising stars" of the Republican right doesn't make it back to the Senate.
In Rhode Island, Sheldon Whitehouse -- a former Attorney General and a fearless reformer -- is running to bring change and a new progressive agenda to Washington. As Attorney General, he sued to block the Bush administration from weakening the Clean Air Act. And, as U.S. Attorney, he successfully prosecuted gang members. Through 20 years of public service, he's brought real change to Rhode Island. And, if you act now to help him defeat Lincoln Chafee, he'll bring real change to Washington.

Each of these four Democratic candidates has a strong chance to win. That makes them marked men in the final weeks of this campaign. The Rove Republicans and so-called independent groups will come after these candidates with everything they've got.
We've got to back up our candidates with everything we've got. It's the only way to win.
This is the decisive point in these Senate races. Act now to support one or more of these candidates. Give them the strength they'll need to carry our values to victory.
Sincerely,
John Kerry
