I think it's time to take a break
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 09:45 PM by WildEyedLiberal
What a dark, foul week. We just watched America abandon its core principles, and everyone is depressed and upset.

In addition, sometimes real life intrudes, too. Suffice to say, this has been one of the worst weeks I've had in a long, long time.

I suppose I should probably take a sabbatical from DU - it seems that my presence, at least this week, is making things worse, not better. I'm not posting this to be a drama queen, but just to apologize if I've inadvertently offended anyone and to let people know, if they don't see me for a while, the reason for my abscence.

See you soon, Kerrycrats, take care and keep the faith.

1. Your posts were fantastic this week.
I felt total comraderie with you. So fear not about offending me anyway.

It's a good idea to take a break. Get some rest and we'll see you again when you're refueled and ready to battle again.

2. We all need breaks every once in a while
The stuff that goes on here is as severe as it gets sometimes. That's because it is stuff that matters and we have deep, deep feelings on this. Breaks help you keep your own voice in your head, settle your soul and keep your balance.

Enjoy your break and come back when ready. We will be waiting for you here. Be well and do what you need to do to be happy.

Love,

Tay

3. i'm not sure if you are talking about any post or thread in particular
from what i have seen i don't see anything wrong.

but i do think taking a break from DU is a good idea. many times i ignore certain posts that have to do with issues i don't want to deal with such as 2008 primary and the candidate threads in GD Politics.

you should continue to check in at least to this forum though.

it's a good idea to see what is going on in the real world also. sometimes the stuff that goes on at DU can make you feel like it's much bigger than it is.

4. Take it easy WEL!
Please don't stay away too long!

It has been a crappy week. The thing I learned this week is how afraid people, even our so-called leaders, are of open honest debate.

Anyway, enjoy your break!

5. Don't stay away too long, WEL.
We'll miss you.
I'm out of town for a week, so I won't be around much either. Hope to hear from you when I get back.
Take care, friend!

6. Take care of yourself WEL!
Take a break from politics for a while and concentrate on school. It amazes me that you are able to excel at both. (Kind of like a certain tall senator that we all know and love was able to do when he was in college. ;))

Try to relax and refresh and we'll look forward to seeing you when you're ready to return. Just remember, we need your voice!

7. Agreed on the foul week.
But America didn't abandon any core principles: most people were against this travesty. It was the stinking Repugs.

Believe me, I understand how you feel about needing some time off. This shist is stressful. But don't worry about offending anybody. Your posts are great and anyone who is offended isn't worth bothering with. You fight for what you believe in.

Take care and be back soon!

8. Do what is right for yourself
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 11:06 PM by karynnj
Remember though that it was not you or anyone on this board that made this week awful. It was Bush and what he has done. With all that in the background, tempers throughout DU have been easier to ignite.

I do hope that you do show up occasionally, at least. I'm sorry for having tried to create peace created more trouble - including for you.

I miss you

9. Oh dear - it is SO not your fault.
This is so, so, so NOT your fault. Any of it.

Don't worry, I will be back soon. I just need to clear my head and deal with some other things - which have nothing to do with DU mostly. Don't ever blame yourself for trying to do a good thing. That is never wrong, ever.

I don't expect to be gone more than a couple of weeks, so don't worry guys - I will be back, definitely. I could never just stop posting here altogether.

To everyone who responded: thank you for your thoughts. I love you all so much. You have all become my real friends over the past two years and you mean a great deal to me. Right now, I just need to get away from the ugliness of politics and recharge my spiritual batteries, hopefully with the idea of coming back fresh and ready to roll.

:grouphug: You guys are the best. I hope I get to meet each and every one of you in person someday.

Bless,

WEL

11. I'll miss you and your wit!
Make sure you won't stay gone too long, and remember what we talked about. Do some real world things, regain a healthy perspective, and come back calm and collected. (you're already cool!)

Hugs, K

12. Please come back soon
You're such a great contributor here, I'll certainly miss your posts.

This has been a tough week for everyone. But maybe it'll help to know that an a right-of-center AM radio talk show I was listening to this morning, the callers were about 5-2 against torture. A couple callers were obvious liberals but the others weren't. I don't particularly like the show most of the time - I listen because they seem to respect callers who disagree with them, they seem a little more rational than the more famous AM wingnuts, and it gives me a glimpse of the other side's thinking. Hearing all the callers call in against torture made me feel good this morning. Maybe our country isn't lost after all - it's just time to change the government.

Anyway enjoy the hiatus and I hope to see you posting again soon!

13. That is very reassuring to hear
I can't believe that most of this country is so scared or has so little morality that they approve of torture. I hope this will cause people to stop and think before following blindly next time.

I think the Democrats (not John Kerry) missplayed this one. This was an issue they should have stood united on. Thay also should have enlisted the churches. The fear that this would label Democrats as weak on terror was a bogeyman.

14. There were a lot
of wingnuts sites linking to a report about the implications of the bill's passage on Town Hall, the RW rag. I really think a lot of them are concerned with the habeas corpus aspect.

15. A break is good WEL. You've worked hard and deserve it.
Have a mocha double and stare at the autumn trees. It will make you feel better.

And as it is...I know I haven't been able to be around as much myself. But we're all hanging together.

I am praying we can save our country this November.

16. WEL - no one gets into more scrapes than me (heh) and I understand what
you're saying, so take a break. But, imo, 10 days is too long for the battles that are ahead, and a coolheaded WEL will be an important warrior.

Do what you must, of course, but I thought I'd add my .02.

17. Do what you must to take care of yourself
I've stepped back from politics some myself, because of the anxiety and despair that can result from events like those of this week. Recharge your batteries, concentrate on other things that are important, and you'll know when you're ready to jump back into the fray.

18. I so enjoy your posts, WEL! Take care of yourself, and
I hope to see you back here when you feel you are able.
I also hope you come back with a smile on your face, because
today, Saturday, things aren't looking so dire, at least not
for us for a change.
