I know that many on this board are more moderate than I but this is disgusting. Both he and Salazar are revolting. Torture is wrong. Period.And Reid wasn't able to control either. I really can't rationalise or justify this. Apparently we cannot get the Dems to vote as a block even in defensive of a basic value. I am sick.

1. I couldn't agree more
Torture is wrong. What part of that is not apparent to these folks. It is wrong. Not only that, but approving it, as they are doing with their votes, is voting for a friggin war crime.

Gonzales could be indicted by a German court for his despicable actions. Torture Boy does not represent me and I am deeply, deeply disappointed that two Dems (so far) have voted for it.

We haven't heard from Kerry yet, right? I know the vote is no, but still it would nice to hear it on the floor in a speech.

2. And he has the nerve to be thumping the Bible. Now he is calling Kennedy
and the others basically liars. He said Gonzales has nothing to do with the memo. He shouldn't be held accountable. He and Salazr are pond scum. He is stuttering now , trying to justify his lies. How can we protect ourselves from our own party?

4. I'm Not For Jumping On The Trash The Dems
Bandwagon but something has got to be done with about Joementum I am dead serious. I am not in favor of trashing democrats everytime they don't do what we expect because you will never find one that you agree with 100% all the time. But damn oh mighty Joementum has got to go his is a fuckin disgrace to the democratic party and I believe that with everything in me. Hell people make mistakes thats normal but this fucker is the mistake himself! I'm not wanting to offend anyone because I'm one of these that feel we have to get away from turning the guns on the democrats and turn them in the right direction and that is at * and the republicans. But Joementum is a exception to the rule if you ask me. This fucker needs to GO!!! He is more republican than he ever has been democrat. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt all the time but damn oh mighty you have to say enough already at some point and I am to that point with Joemometum!

3. what is most disappointing about Lieberman
is that he comes from a blue state.

You can make an argument in support of Salazar, considering the Colorado political situation, but there is no defending Holy Joe.

I hope the Conn. people can take him out in the 2006 primary - that state could (and should) elect a true liberal.

9. I agree with that
I just don't get him at all. Except to say I saw a recent Conn poll. He's got 70+% of Dems AND Reps. The entire vote, 70% or more. Hard to argue with that really. It'll be interesting to watch that as his election gets closer.

But still, I'd rather have him than Santorum. With some of these Dem Senators, seems to me it's a "be careful what you wish for" situation. What you get might not be exactly what you thought it was going to be.

I just can't understand it. I heard Joementum"s speech and it made me sick. He needs to retire ASAP and see if he can find a congregation somewhere to preach to.

Connecticut? We're looking at you. Is he up in 2006?

15. I agree
Reid is a good guy, and his heart is in the right place, too. And JK was behind him 100% to be minority leader.

(That stupid videogame campaign pissed me off) but seeing him make out w/ Bush AND vote for Torture Gonzales is just way, way off. Like, what the fuck?

I am so disappointed in Joe as a Dem AND a Jew.

The truly Jewish response...
A Prayer in Time of Danger
=======================================================
Dear friends,

Today the United States Senate is poised to take a fateful step in American history
by confirming to become Attorney General someone who has encouraged the use
of torture.

When Julius Caesar and his army crossed the bridges over the Rubicon River to
return to Rome and replace its governance by the Senate with his own
dictatorship, his crossing was noted by history as the crucial crossing from
republic to empire. May this event today, which could become a crossing of the
Rubicon, so stir the conscience of America that the danger goes no further.

From a quaking heart, to help stir and strengthen our resolve, I offer this prayer.

Shalom,
Rabbi Arthur Waskow

A PRAYER IN TIME OF DANGER

You Whose very Image appears in every human face and body;
You Who are Compassion and call on us to live compassionately;
You Who are present in the sufferings of all humanity and all the earth --

We confess to you that our rulers have -- by torturing prisoners -- tortured,
tormented, and defiled Your Image;

have poured forth pain, contempt, humiliation, and death rather than compassion
on those who, as prisoners, can do no harm;

have inflicted rather than relieving suffering and despair.

You Who are the Giver of Law,

We confess to you that our rulers have violated the law that all humanity has
agreed to in the Geneva Conventions and the Convention Against Torture,
forbidding the use of torture against such prisoners;

have violated our own Constitution, which forbids "cruel and unusual
punishments";

and have violated laws passed by our own Congress to forbid torture.

You Who are the Breath of Life and the Hurricane of Change,
we confess to You that we have been unable till now to redress these wrongs;

unable till now to bring about the changes that would deliver our republic from
guilt and shame;

unable till now to restore the rule of law, even in the offices that call themselves
the halls of Justice.

To You, Holy One,
we pledge that we will not cease in our efforts
till the government of our beloved country
no longer shames us in the eyes of the world,
in our own eyes,
and above all in Your eyes.

-- AOW.
