New "Strike At Tehran" - I am freaked out
I think this is going to make sense to the wing nuts. The only sort of American pride they understand is defeating people in war. If Bush starts pushing the idea that Iran is fueling the civil war in Iraq and makes that the issue instead of nuclear weapons, then I'm afraid a whole lot of people will buy right in. This has been the most frightened I've ever been that they've found their way to attack Iran. These people are completely insane.

To Win in Baghdad, Strike at Tehran

"..A few of our leaders have put together the big picture. In a recent Washington Post op-ed, for example, Sen. Joe Lieberman warned that "while we are naturally focused on Iraq, a larger war is emerging. On one side are extremists and terrorists led and sponsored by Iran, on the other moderates and democrats supported by the United States." Similarly, President Bush warned us last year that "the Iranian regime has clear aims: they want to drive America out of the region, to destroy Israel, and to dominate the broader Middle East."

But these leaders have so far avoided advocating the use of military force against Iran. No one is willing to follow the implications of the big picture to the only rational conclusion: we are already in a regional war with Iran, and we need to start fighting it as a regional war. And the most effective place to fight that war is at its center, by targeting the Islamist regime in Tehran."

1. It's not good.
That's putting it midly, I know, but I have been trying not to think too much about it. The wingnuts are crowing like crazy about it. Scott Ritter and Seymour Hirsch have been on this for sometime now. I have Ritter's book about Iran. I guess I better read it.

3. This is nuts, and more likely than we want to imagine
How many would have predicted, say, 6 months ago that Bush was going to escalate the war in Iraq? And now he's proposed exactly that. And where did the idea of more troops come from? Right wing media and publications. Bush only listens to his base, and his base wants war with Iran (and Syria, too). On a very popular right wing mil blog, they also lamented that the U.S. wasn't more like Ethiopia (???!!!!????) who had routed the Islamists in some areas in Somalia. They consider the fact that the U.S. has rules of war a weakness. They think honoring human rights is a flaw in America. They want the militias destroyed and al Sadr "crispy" (yes, their word). Now I don't like al Sadr, but I deplore such dishonorable talk; especially since Maliki relies on him for political support -- a complication these idiots can't seem to comprehend. All they want is war, war, war and more killing, killing, killing. And they really do think that our traditional values are a luxury we can no longer afford.

I don't know if we can stop this, but for the love of God -- the American people are OPPOSED to this insanity. There's something called democracy that should be honored.
