1. And even scarier...
is that they are the rule, not the exceptions.

That's why the Village Idiot is running our country.

2. Jeff Sessions' wife voted for the last American Idol.
He felt compelled to give a speech about it on the Senate floor.

Just sayin'.

4. An interesting American Idol observation.
Contestants from the South have won every single season. Black, white, male, female - as far as that goes the winners have been very evenly divided, but every single one of them has been Southern. What this means in relation to real life, I have no idear. (Actually I do have an idear but don't have the time to wax poetic this morning.)

And yes, I usually do keep up with what's happening on the show because there is almost always someone good on there from North Carolina. My allegiance to my state stops at the door however, when it comes to political candidates. :)

10. I've noticed that too
I've been a little surprised when some go off early, but all the winners have certainly been deserving.

6. I hae never seen the show
I did see Dreamgirls this weekend and I understand that Jennifer Hudson, who is a brilliant singer, was ousted from the show in some prior competition. Too bad. She is one very talented lady.

7. I try not to watch the program, but my husband is crazy about it.
You see, there are three judges who watch and comment on people's musical performances. Right now, they are in the very beginning of the season, reviewing the good, the bad, and the ugly. And, the judges comments are sometimes down right insulting or demeaning. For me the show represents a forum for three bullies who like to feel superior to other people and get a kick out of making people cry and feel bad about themselves.
Now, once the good talent is discovered the real contest gets underway and these good talented people get to perform week after week, singing different songs and using versatile styles. This goes on and on and on until everybody but two people are eliminated for one bad performance or another. The judges make there good or bad comments, but the public gets to pick their favorites, and so it goes until it is down to two. Then "supposedly" the public choose an American Idol.
Very popular show. The rating for the first night- Tuesday, were their biggest ever. This is America-now. Like I said, I don't watch it.

8. We watch
It's a family thing. Somewhere along the line some young kid will have an amazing story and will just grab your heart away, at least mine. Fantasia grew up very poor, teen-mom, drove from NC to Atlanta. She missed the audition and started singing in the parking lot, the security guard decided to let her in. I loved her right from the gate. Jennifer Hudson made it to the sixth round. Tamyra Gray made it to the 3rd round, then went on to Boston Public. Carrie Underwood won some CMA award, iirc. The show does give a lot of young people an opportunity they might never know how to get on their own. I love that 'dreams come true' aspect of it.

9. My mom watches it.
She likes it too. I see nothing wrong with it. The premises is better than a lot of other shows. Talent contests on TV are as old as, well, network TV.

I have no problem with it, it's just not my cup of tea. IF you like it, enjoy it. My mom does. So do a lot of folks.

11. me either, Tay
As a matter of fact, I get highly upset when Prison Break gets put on hiatus just so this ridiculous show can be aired. What a waste of two perfectly good hours per week!

14. I guess there's no accounting for taste, is there
However; television is overrun by reality shows that cost little to produce and get huge ratings. I'm sorry - I prefer the good old-fashioned shows that take writing, directing, producing, and acting talent.

15. I actually could care less
It's pretty much all a big crap box from where I sit. I see Idol bashers the same way I see Kerry bashers, some bizarre elitism sets in and it becomes something for the 'cool kids' to sneer at. I actually think Six Feet Under was the last truly quality program on, and if it weren't for Michael C. Hall, that show wouldn't have been all that much either. TV is just a diversion, something to pass some time and chatter about the next day. Football season and then Idol season. No big deal.

16. Michael C. Hall
is brilliant, and I agree with you about Six Feet Under. I was so sad to see the show end. Still, there is Dexter, which is disturbing but exceptionally well-written - and it has MCH!
And regarding football season; I'm with you! Go Pats :D

13. I have never seen it.
So, I actually don't have an opinion one way or the other.

However, I thought Jennifer Hudson was amazing. If this show brought her out, well, gee that's all to the good.

It's not my cup of tea. But I have nothing against it.
