BUT Here's the real source:

GP Putnam, publishers. 2001
His version is a little different (looks like the internet has been adding things and shifting them around. .
He first wrote these out at the age of 19, while still an undergrad at Harvard. He published it then as a booklet for high school students in 1968
Somehow eight of his original ten commandments ended up on a wall in Mother Teresa's children's home in Calcutta.
I just want to be sure the original guy gets the credit he deserves.

Here's his original wording.
1. People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway.

9. no worries, a common mistake,lots of people think this

. .the history of the mistake is all recounted in the book I mentioned. That always happens to the best stuff (do you know that prayer, the Desiderata? "Go placidly among the wind and noise. . " there's a similar confusion about that one , too, as there is with a bunch of greatest one-liners). It's a compliment to the originators, and to the usually classy folks who are later mistakenly thought to be the authors, that this happens. (I mean, hey, if my stuff were thought to be the work of Mother Teresa, or, say, John Kerry, I'd consider it a great compliment!).;-)

I've seen this mistake before, and commented on it before, so I had the information at the ready. Actually, I have a copy of the book itself. .LIke I said, I like to see people get credit for what they do.

People like John Kerry, for instance. , ,sigh. Someday our fellow Americans will give him the full credit he deserves, too. Sigh. .
