6. Same here - if she meant Bill this is shameful
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 03:51 PM by karynnj
She opted to stay with him - and "evil" is a very strong word. This is a gift to the RW who hate both of them - dare I say it, but this is "inappropriate".

Can we please re-run the last say 3 months and go back to the very lovely in love Kerrys, who each in different words have mentioned the strong moral compass of the other? Just when I thought I was content that Kerry opted to follow his conscience and work to end the war.

8. She told reporters afterward that she was *not* referring to Bill
she seemed pretty peeved that they thought she was. I interpreted her reference to "evil and bad men" to refer to political opponents during the 90s, though she didn't really elaborate, so I don't know. She was asked about her response to the initial "evil and bad men" question later at a press conference, and some of the news stories have included clips from that as well (she said that she was trying to be funny because everyone keeps telling her to lighten up.)

I agree with you, though - I do miss JK and THK in that respect.

9. I'm glad to here that - it makes far more sense
if I wanted to be snarky, I could say - that it's not what se meant - but how the RW interprted it. (which is effectively how she treated Kerry, but I hope she learns from this - everything WILL BE TWISTED. Kerry speaks very very well - and he got caught - though this is ambiguous and nastier.)

10. You mean she flubbed a line and then tried to correct it by going to the press
and explaining what she did mean? Why less moral and less fair politicians than JK, should be attacking her for calling the former president evil and doing damage to the whole party. A Freudian slip I bet.She really did mean to call him evil.
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

11. She had a previously-scheduled press conference that took place after the event
and they kept asking her about the joke - she was *not* the person who brought it up, and she seemed annoyed that reporters kept asking about it. I have no idea what her intention was, but I can hardly imagine that she'd bring up her husband's infidility in public - she's way more controlled than that.

12. this is only the beginning.
There will be many more attacks I'm afraid, over stupid things. That a mess our electoral process has become; the media can't wait to get this kind of material, too. No matter what Hillary thinks she can do about it, they will smear.

Wake me when it's over! :boring:

13. Oddly if the media did not favor her, this could hurt more than JK's joke
would have long term.

Kerry clearly flubbed a joke - but it was already very clear to see that he has a very strong tie to these young vets - and he could have made self depreciating jokes about his ability to tell jokes, which is not necessary for a President.

I just saw some coverage - it was clear this was a planned joke - and the woman around her all laughed. Later when asked about it she couldn't say who it was about - though the easy answer would be "I told you about the vast right wing conspiracy." So, it seems that maybe it was a joke that referenced Bill. (maybe she didn't intend the word, evil.)

But, far more so than Kerry's joke, where the text was out there and he was straight forward about it from the beginning (and not in a rage like her husband.)

If their media and party support were the same, Hillary would be dead. The RW seems to be having fun with this - it agrees with their view of Bill. For many Democrats, it brings to the fore the knowledge that Bill was not the best of husbands and all the baggage that comes with it.

What I don't see is any self righteous opponent demanding that she not smear the last Democratic President, even if he is her husband. This one of Hillary's key weaknesses. I hope she learned from this that in the glare of constant coverage everyone will flubb something.

The media and party will support her - but she likely wil have a few very uncomfortable days of hearing this story and being embarassed and having to answer questions on it. Having watched Kerry go through that when his was completely an innocent slip, if I was as good as Kerry, I would feel sympathy - but instead I feel a sense that maybe she will see how wrong she was to do what she did to Kerry.

Tay said they were all have mistakes - I didn't expect it of Hillary a week and a half into running. (Kerry had no more than 4 flubs in almost 4 years - not bad)

16. I really think the GOP wants her to win.
The primary, that is. Then they will get out the big guns and try to shoot her down. Who here doesn't think that there is a memo somewhere saying, "hands off Hillary until she wins the nomination!"

18. Hand raised here
I mean McCain speaks of how nice she is on trips, Gingrich speaks positively - there's something going on. She is still hit by the Rush Limbaughs etc.) What scares me is how vulnerable each of the top three are. If I can say how they would go after each - and I'm bad at that - it's obvious.

Edwards may be even more vulnerable his the record of his sole Seanet term is almost 180 degrees from where he is now, except on trade.

The most enthusiasm for her candidacy I've heard from anyone (aside from Terry McAuliffe) has all been from MSM talking heads and republicans.

7. Clinton fatigue
People really will not want 8 more years of this. I don't know if maybe she wants to get it out of the way early or what. I also don't think it's funny. If she is with him because she loves him, then she should have forgiven him and respect him enough to not say something like this. If that's not the case, then she clearly doesn't know how to deal with 'evil and bad men' because if she did, she'd have kicked his ass to the curb a long long time ago.
