What the fuck has happen to the Republican party?
In GD many are bemoaning Joementum and what has happened to the Dem party. To me it isn't such a big deal. Maybe we aren't the party of FDR any more, but we are still the party of the Kennedys, Dean, and JK so I have hope.
What about the frikking Repub party? They get worse and worse over the last hundred years. Whatever happen to Lincoln or even TR or even IKE, for goodness sake? The party leadership is so RW, so anti-gay, and favors the richest 1%.
I don't think moderate repubs like Olympia Snowe have much of a chance or a voice in their party and that is sad. It depresses me that most repubs just go along with Dubya.

1. That's why I loved hanging with the "Republicans for Kerry"
during the campaign. Even got to see one with a bumper sticker and everything. Now that's patriotism: country over party.

I think there were more Kerry-voting Repubs than we know. And they ain't happy either. I don't like it when folks rail on Repubs as a whole, because I know there are some good ones. Sometimes I think the common sense Dems and the common sense Repubs could form the "Common Sense Party."

I also kind of chortle when the Repubs claim Lincoln as their own when back then being a Repub was really more like a Dem. The Dems were the State Rights folks. It was their misfortune to pick slavery to make that point (oversimplified I know).

2. Republicans for Kerry, proof that
some Republicans are sane. I think the radical right wing of the party just has too much power and the few good moderates like Susan Collins and Olympia Snow do not have any real say in the party at large. McCain is also a rare breed and he has been mercilessly co-opted by the Bushies.

3. The Lincoln Cartoon
It says it all. This is NOT the Republican Party of today, no way.
