1. JAY-ZUS!
Can that friggin' interviewer ask the same question over and over again enough times? Was he on continuous loop or something?

Kerry laid him out and set him straight mighty nicely though.

Way to go Kerry.

13. No freaking kidding!
How many ways can you ask, "how did you lose the election?"

I like Kerry's answers. I happen to agree that our party stands for great things and all of the hand wringing is just TOO MUCH!!!

As usual, Kerry shows leadership. Calm in the storm.

2. GO JOHN GO!!!
LMAO I love some of his comments.

"Those naysayers are completely out to lunch. They don't know what the are talking about."

"It's hogwash to say we don't know what we stand for."

Simom: Democrats have not renominated a candidate since Aglai Stevenson in 1956.

Kerry: I don't thik anybody has tried. He was the last to try. Look at the facts.

:bounce: :bounce: YOU TELL THEM JOHN! :bounce: :bounce:

3. Great Interview
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 08:57 AM by karynnj
Kerry sounds so clear and focused. I loved his answers about continuing to fight.

On air america this morning, they were talking about Dean's view of the future of the Democratic party and the grassroots effort. What's strange is that you could have swapped Kerry sentences from this article and Dean sentences from AA and the gist of what was being said would be the same.

(I don't know the show and only heard a shrt fragment when taking a "late" teen to school. So, the segment might not have been representative of the whole.)

4. I really like this line:
ME: Are you the head of the party? Are you the voice of the party?
KERRY: There are a lot of different voices. I don't claim singularity. There are elected and unelected voices up and down the line, including the activist community.

He has so much respect for us! I love that.

5. Also,
this:

ME: How have people been reacting to you?
KERRY: All over the place we have been getting a phenomenal reception. People are
very warm and it's amazing. In airports, stores, in streets, here and elsewhere. People are genuine about continuing the fight.

Despite what we see here in GD, I think a lot of people feel really positive about him. He has to find that encouraging.

wrote that great long article last July about how Kerry won Iowa. That was great.

The interview was short. But interesting. Feisty.

9. By the way,
Catnip??

This is mine!! JK, feisty badass.

ME: Some think the party needs a candidate who is not Washington-based.
KERRY: Personally, I thought George Bush was Washington-based, too.

ME: But the Democrats have not renominated a losing presidential candidate since Adlai Stevenson in 1956.
KERRY: I don't think anybody has tried. He was the last to try. Look at the facts.

Ah Catnip.

I love those quotes. And he is right. Nobody know anything right now, especially about whether or not he can run again. Just cuz it hasn't happened in 50 years, doesn't mean it can't happen.

I need a pic of a cat playing with catnip for a new avatar. Sigh!

11. Feisty!
I like it--describes where JK is at right now. He's found his momentum and isn't going to quit. He's tough! But at the same time he's very sensitive to people who are hurting. A wonderful combination in a leader.

I'm seeing here that he has rediscovered the way to not talk like a Senator when talking with the press--that's why he's sounding more like Dean, who is extremely good at plain language. Look for him to get better and better.

And yeah, he is not being arrogant and claiming to be the one true leader--he's being a true democrat in that--we are all important in this fight, and it's not all about him.

But yeah he is really showing leadership--he doesn't care what has or has not been done before, what precidents are out there. He is demonstrating the vision of a true leader.

Maybe his time is still to come. Maybe it will work out for the best in the end. Hope so! We will need exactly this kind of leadership after the long Bush nightmare ends.

14. Okay, I know I'm reading between lines that may not be there again, but
whenever he answers the "are you running in '08" question, he does not say yes, and he does not say no. He does not even say "maybe" or "I'm giving it some serious thought."

He says "it's way too early to think about that."

When asked why he lost, he does not say, "because of x or y," or even say, "yes, I lost" (as far as I've heard, he has never said the words "I lost" except maybe in the concession speech...I didn't listen to it), he says, "if 60K people in Ohio had voted differently, everyone would be writing 'why did Bush lose?'."

S: "Did September 11 make it unwinnable for you?"
K: "Unwinnable? That's for others to judge." (Because he damn well WON!)

S: "Democrats haven't renominated a losing...candidate...."
K: "Look at the facts." (The fact is, he's not a losing candidate!)

So maybe I'm in Kerry Happyland and I'm dreaming, but his choice of words continues to intrigue me.

15. You may be reading between lines that are not be there,
but if you are, I'm reading the same non-existent stuff.

I know during the campaign Kerry would occasionally mis-speak, but I'm of the opinion that under normal conditions he rarely does. He chooses his words very carefully, and I find them intriguing as well.

It's sort of like reading TayTay's tea leaves, only parsing his actual words instead.

I believe everything he says is strictly true, but there's a LOT more he just isn't saying out loud. I do know that's one of the things about him that drives the deaniacs nuts - that he doesn't just blurt out whatever he thinks.

16. I also believe that JK hates *
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 03:36 PM by TayTay
And tht he wants to run because it will be good for the country and so forth, but also because he frickin hates *. Honestly, can't you just read it all over him. He just can't stand that lying, no-good, crappy, dumb, little freak show bastard. (Hey, JK is a Masshole, right. Since when do real Massholes ever forget a slight or walk away from a grudge-match?)

I am as high-minded as the next person, but I also know a grudge-match when I see one. And I think I am seeing one. And I think part of it is the knowledge that * screwed him over in Ohio. And that means this ain't over yet, not by a long shot.

18. and part of it is everything * has done since taking office
in January 2001. He hates what * has done as much and probably more than we all do. He knows more about everything * has done/is going to try to do!

So TayTay, how do you recognize a grudge-match? Do you see body language, or choice of words, or ? He conceals any anger with an upbeat attitude, but ?

Your comment made me think of what I read somewhere, that JK's type and *'s type at Yale were polar opposites, the scholars v.s. the party boys, and each group eyed the other with disdain.

I do think that, judging by his comments to Russert and other recent interviews that he has been giving the election a LOT of thought.

23. Because he didn't walk away after the 'loss'
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 08:22 PM by TayTay
I think it probably took a couple of weeks for him to get his shit together and figure out where to go from here after the loss in November. I agree with the reports that we got from Larisa and from Fire that he knows the score in Ohio and he knows that the Rethugs whores f*cked him over. So, he had his choices, he could have quit fighting and accepted a position as a Party Elder, who fought the good fight, but lost. That would have fit that whole bullshit 'gentleman' image that he had. (Gentlemen do not get elected 4 times to the US Senate from MA. Not even Teddy K. This is a rough state. Many have tried to f*ck with JK. Many have fallen by the wayside and are not currently anything. Anybody seen Bill Weld lately?)

Who showed up at the Inaugural and braved that shitstorm. (Kerry could have made excuses and not attended. The press would have snickered, but so what?) I took that as a definite 'I'm still here and I'm not fading away' message. (Come on, Kerry knew he would be getting huge TV time and that he would be booed and stuff. He's not an idiot. But I think he showed because, you know. 'F*ck you, I'm still here.') Then there is the slowly building case for leading or being one of the leaders of the Loyal Opposition. Kerry took his own trip to the Middle East and Europe. (Jayzus, the foreign press ate that up. He was mobbed in Europe. And he got to the Euro leaders before * did. In your face, but in a classy statesmanlike way.)

Remember those committee and sub-committee assignments that Kerry has. Foreign Relations, Finance, with the subs of Health Care (Medicare drug bill anyone with it's big budgeting lies,) sub-committee on the deficit and the sub-committee on Social Security. I think he has a nice chance to talk with authority against what the evil *ies are trying to do.

John Kerry is a very smart man. And he does have excellent political instincts. And he is a survivor. This guy is not wimpy or else he wouldn't be where he is today. He would have folded many years ago. (He got f*cked over in the last election. Fool me once, shame on you. Try it again MF and I'll break your friggin hand. Okay, that's just me, but it is very Massholey.) He knows what these bastards are doing. This is what Kerry fought against his whole career, liars in government positions. I think Kerry will try and help the Dems because that is a good in and of itself. (And it might help John Kerry as well. So what? Like that's a bad thing.) And I think he wants to be there and have a front row seat to expose these bastards and do what he can to take them down. That would be sweet. These people screwed him over, defamed his military record and insulted his honorable service. (And they ripped on his wife.) I don't think it is out of line to think that Kerry wants another shot at bringing these whorey bastards down. It would be a vindication of him and what he has fought for his whole life. (The hearty 'FU it would bring, would just be a nice extra.)

19. He's on fire, all right
He's been coming out strong against Bush, with the Cabinet votes, the anti-Rumsfeld petition, the initiatives he's proposing, and even just in the language of his e-mails to his supporters... very strongly anti-Bush. It's great.

And yes, I agree... he knows that Repuke voting machine companies and racist GOP voter suppression screwed him over. He just can't say it 'cause he can't prove all of it yet, and it's bound to be frustrating beyond words to have that kind of knowledge, even just intuitively, and be forced to keep silent about it.

Take care of yourself John... continue to channel that pent-up frustration in positive ways and don't let it wreck your health. :)

I love the way you put it!

Yeah, JK is a Masshole, and a fiercely competitive Masshole at that. I agree with you about him HATING *. He knows he got screwed. He knows * is a bullying, cowardly punkass shit.

One of the real pleasures for me during the campaign was listening to Kerry's words while reading his face. Cognitive dissonance on parade!!!!

17. that's why he won and Dean didn't
You've got to be shrewd in politics. And you can still be honest--but everybody shouldn't know everything! Hopefully Dean is learning(and maybe he's getting some advice from a certain senator). Dean is smart and I'm confident he'll be a good DNC chair.

Anyway, you both could be onto something--more developments could be coming. Or maybe he just has a hard time spitting out the words, "I lost". We can't be sure. But it's fun to speculate. I guess I won't toss out my tin foil hat just yet!

21. One of the things I
know for certain about JK is that he hates to lose. I don't think he will let it affect his health in any kind of negative way. He will just come out fighting in a way that * has no idea is coming.

Kerry angry is a beautiful sight. It doesn't make him crazy; it focuses his mind.

22. And we do want him angry
enough to fight back against the machine. He seems to react to adversity by getting all the more active (if that is possible-lol)

Ooh wouldn't that fix those lefty freepers, too? At the end of last year, whenever JK would make some kind of move, there was an immediate wave of positives for him. Then the negativity would inch back. Something like this would shut up their Kerry-bashing for good.
