99 programs terminated
My stomach is literally churning. I'm too sick to respond. Several of these are Kerry's programs.

1. remember
this is a proposed budget only. I'm sure Congress will fight for a lot of these programs, even the repubs. 2006 elections, you know. Dub is a lamer duck than he knows for proposing this kind of idiotic budget.

7. Look at this
A bunch of those education programs were just authorized under NCLB. Some of them make up about half of the Academic and Teacher Quality Programs, this was really the basis of NCLB for Dems in the first place. Whether they're cut or not, what kind of sick, cynical bastard is he. Sell this program to voters and then turn around 3 months later and cut it???

3. Seems like the bulk of them are education-related
The term for this is "mortgaging one's future."

6. That's a good sound bite.
Seriously. Dems should be saying that. It's succinct and instantly understood, both the reference and the meaning of it.

9. To be replaced with confessing sins to Jesus
No doubt. I am SO ANGRY. How many years did alcoholics have NOTHING but Jesus and it DID NOT WORK. My husband pioneered outpatient treatment in the 80's. The fucker. I am SO ANGRY.

I haven't looked at the rest of the list. Major Reductions and Major Reforms. It is shocking when you actually see it.

11. This is the logical extension of the Rethug agenda
These people do not believe in government programs. At all. They do not believe in block grants or the environmental protection agency or in much aid to education. They have been very clear on this since the early 1980's. They believe that the 'free market' is the correct way to solve all problems. The government is supposed to do only what industry cannot. Regulating the environment is an undo burden on business. Education is best left to the states and if children want a good education, well, they should have picked better parents. Incentives in aid programs only encourages laziness and sloth. The purpose of the government is to enhance business interests. The rest is of no concern to these people.

This is what the fight has been against all these years. Perhaps now that it is all laid out in all it's supreme folly and ugliness, the Dems will get deadly serious and start to fight it as though their lives depended on it. Because some people's lives do depend on this.

We are in for the fight of our lives. These people have harnessed Jesus and patriotism to their side to fight for the undoing of everything Dems and progressives (or liberals) have managed to enact since Roosevelt. (Theodore, btw.) They are deadly serious and well-funded and have legions of loyal followers and corporate sponsors and the media. This is the fight. This is what it is in all it's ugly ugly manifestations. This is what you are up against.

I know there will be horse-trading on this budget. I also know large portions of it will go through. Kerry knows this too. The only way we can fight back is to marshall the people through the fabled grassroots efforts. Time's a wasting. Tick tock. Tick Tock.

12. Starve the Beast
That's what I heard that this repug tactic is called. First they create a huge budget deficit because of the tax cuts. When that gets bad enough, they cut government programs like crazy because, gee, stuff HAS to be cut because the government doesn't have enough money to fund them!

16. Police Union endorsed Kerry
As did almost every other union that I'm aware of. Some smaller group of cops backed Bush. That's another thing I was pissed off at the campaign about. We needed to make a much bigger deal with the cops, firefighters, emts and airline pilots. How do you have the endorsement of the four groups who are on the frontlines of the "war on terror" and not win the damned election?
