Democrats are crying foul to further cuts to the Small Business Administration's budget.
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) charged President Bush has slashed the SBA budget more than any other federal agency--paring it to $593 million in the proposed fiscal 2006 budget from $900 million in 2001. The agency's fiscal 2005 budget is estimated at $610 million.
"It's obvious the administration only pays lip service to the struggles of small businesses, because again and again they slash assistance to rural, low-income, women-owned, minority-owned and home-based small businesses," Kerry said in a news release.

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) has introduced a bill to help small firms that are being hurt by increases in heating fuel costs.
The bill would give businesses and small farms access to credit through disaster loan programs at the Small Business Administration and the Department of Agriculture.
"Just like hurricane victims in Florida and flood victims in Pennsylvania, small businesses in New England, the Midwest and throughout the country need help," Kerry said in a news release. "These low-cost SBA loans will ensure businesses and residents can pay for heating fuel this winter without risking their business to do it."
Kerry introduced a similar bill in 2001. That bill passed the Senate but did not come to a vote in the House
