Question 2: How bad is the Negroponte nomination and will Kerry support it
The Dem leadership doesn't seem to be as upset with this nomination as with Rice or Gonzalez. In fact, Pelosi and Reid sound quite chipper.

Do they not know his background? Or is his background not as serious as some are making out? Someone said he had something to do with Iran/Contra. If so, then Kerry would know his background. I wonder if he will vote yea or nay.

I see some out in GD are upset about the Chertoff nomination too. Then why the hell couldn't I and a couple others not get more than a couple posts when we asked about the guy on DU? There didn't seem to be the outrage in general over the guy that there was with Gonzalez and Rice. And he passed unanimously. Is he that bad either? What are your opinions? I trust most of you guys to be both informed AND sain about these things.

It bugged me watching some on DU just ream Reid a new one for saying Negroponte was okay. I defended him saying he was a good man and a fighter, and got reamed too. Granted, it was probably a lefty freeper from the way she/he was going on about Reid the DINO anti-choice guy.

Gee, I kinda like him, actually. Tough little bugger.

What say you, Kerrycrats. Is it disturbing or not that our Dem leadership isn't up in arms over Negroponte or Chertoff?

1. Negroponte is an evil son of a bitch
I'm sensitive to anyone involved in the criminal activities in Central America. I'm disturbed that they find him acceptable. I doubt I'll start hating anyone over it but it'll be a disappointment.

2. The Negraponte vote will be interesting
Isn't he a convicted felon. (Pardoned for his crimes by *'s Daddy?) Kerry knows, better than anyone else in the Senate, that this guy is a rat-bastard. I will be folliwng this vote with some interest.

That said, the Dems can't just form an agenda from saying 'No' to everything. (It won't work. It didn't work for the Rethugs in '96, and it won't work for them.) They have to pick their battles. Negraponte will sail through because he is minimally acceptable. (Gawd, how awful is that?) But I will be extremely interested in seeing if my esteemed Senator has any floor speeches on this one.

3. negroponte should be stood up against a wall
he's a war criminal

I would like to see a bigger fuss made over him than even Gonzales.
At the very least this man's past needs to be made public.

4. my bit of knowledge is that
Negroponte was actually Bush's fourth choice for the position, after the first three turned him down.

I really like Harry Reid, too. He's got guts. I do hope the momentum the Congressional Dems have got going with Reid, Pelosi, Boxer, Kerry and others keeps on going and building. Fight tough, but fight smart!

5. interesting take on why the Dems won't be too oppositional
to the Negroponte nomination. They have not laid the needed groundwork for a good objection. http://www.liberaloasis.com/

6. Grrrrr
I don't get how war criminals can go on living fabulous lives while the victims lie in mass graves. It's not right.

8. Negroponte is a thousand times worse than Chertoff.
Chertoff's memos helped organized discrimination against Arab-Americans. That's terrible, but Negroponte is a war criminal and should be locked up.
It does disturb me that Dem leadership is not so up in arms about these two esp. Negroponte. Yes, I think Kerry understands about Negroponte and I'm interested in what he will say. I hope he does not vote for him, but if he does, I won't call him a DINO.
I think Senators pick their fights over these things, but I think this something to fight against. But, it's easy for me to say, but not fully understand because I'm not a Senator.
