Ed O'Reilly, the Democrat challenging U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Boston) in this year's Senate primary, ended the second fundraising quarter with less cash on than he had at the beginning of the quarter despite an additional $200,000 loan he made to his own campaign, according to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission.
The Gloucester lawyer reported $215,145 cash on hand after starting the quarter with $292,024.96 cash on hand.
...
O'Reilly has largely relied on his own pocketbook to pay for the venture. He loaned his campaign another $200,000 this quarter. So far, he has loaned his campaign $583,422.85 for the cycle.
Interestingly, O'Reilly has not forgiven any of those loans and the campaign paid back $216,000 this quarter. The campaign currently owes O'Reilly $367,422.85.
Wow, his campaign is going nowhere. He's just a tool. And if Kerry goes ahead and backs gay marriage (he's getting pretty close already), EOR will have completely outlived his usefulness.
EOR has performed the following duties thus far:
1. So people can say they're pissed at Kerry for voting for the IWR. Kerry then could mention his timetable for withdrawal, which Obama is now running on, and for which the Maliki government has now endorsed. All communications between constituents and the Senator on Iraq have gone through. Check.
2. So people can say, "Johnny, where have you been lately? Come home to Mass." Kerry is now doing "Kerry on every Corner" and is going all over Mass. Check.
3. So Hillary supporters in Mass can say: "I'm MAD at you John for supporting Obama. I'm really mad, but I still want you to be my Senator so I'll just make a little noise, act like I'm going to support EOR, but then return home again afterwards." Check.
4. The gay community are like: hey, EOR is going to be OUR tool. So how 'bout it, John -- gay marriage. John: well, I'm just going to say that gay marriage is settled law in Mass. so don't worry about it. GLBT Mass: Um, cool, John, but um, EOR IS OUT THERE so can you just say you're for the thing. We're kind of sore with you about '04, even though we know you rock on all the other stuff that's important. So how 'bout it, bro -- gay marriage? Work still in progress.
No idea what will happen with #4, but if THAT ONE goes away, EOR serves absolutely zero purpose to anyone. Which is why it is being smartly pushed by the gay community now:
