Thank you beachmom and LittleClarkie!
:hi:

I just went back through my old posts and found your thoughtful replies with the picture I've been looking for. It's now saved to my files. I didn't want to just reply again in the old thread so I hope this is ok to post here. I really appreciate it.

Thank you from MPK!

1. No problem, MPK. I noticed that the poster who wrote that ugly
comment had his/her post deleted. I think that picture refutes a lot of the cynical readings of John Kerry's activism in '71.

2. I have that person on ignore.
They must be a repeat offender. I lurked here at DU after Major Disappointment '04 and finally registered an account so I could use the ignore function. I really can't stand reading vicious mendacious crap about Kerry. That year the list got really big.

Yeah, I can't imagine how someone could look at that picture and imagine activism was a vanity project for Kerry.

3. I agree that that picture tells the truth
It would if it were anyone, but given how strong and controlled Kerry has managed to be through so much, this picture is easily the most emotional picture of him.

5. It's an incredible portrait.
My first real exposure to Kerry was watching the Cspan.com link of his debate with O'Neill on the Dick Cavett show from the early 70's. I enjoyed his verve and sense of control.

A picture like this gives insight into the great emotional wellspring that drives the control and precision.

4. I didn't even see the comment.
I'll consider myself lucky. I wonder how some people survive without being deleted, I have to say.

And you're welcome. I have to say that picture had an impact on me when I saw it in Tour of Duty. I was at that time still trying to make friends with Kerry the candidate, and that picture made me cry, and let me know that under the stiff exterior there was a good man.

6. I tear up everytime I see it.
I need to watch Tour of Duty again. I have to credit John Kerry with getting me interested in politics at all. While I've been liberal for years I never really paid all that much attention to the process and was generally apathetic.

You can tell he's someone with a big heart, very smart and totally committed to making the world a better place. What's not to love?

7. His was my first proper campaign
Bush drove me into his arms. I went from being an ambivalent ABBer to really falling in love with the guy. Dedicated Kerrycrat til the end.
