Wow, he scored 100% on the "HUMANE SOCIETY HUMANE SCORECARD".
On behalf of my two girls- Muffie and BooBoo and my boy Buddy I want to thank Senator Kerry for his support and protection of all animals.
BOSTON – Senator John Kerry was one of seven senators named “Humane Champion” today by the Humane Society in recognition of his leadership on animal protection issues during the 110th Congress. Kerry also received a score of 100 percent on the Humane Society’s Humane Scorecard for co-sponsoring and voting for animal protection legislation during the same legislative session. His score was based on his opposition to horse slaughter, animal fighting, downed animal slaughter and his work to prohibit research on dogs and cats obtained from unknown sources – including stolen family pets.
“The Humane Society works every day to protect animals from abuse,” said Senator Kerry. “I'll continue to work with my colleagues to ensure the Humane Society has a strong voice in Congress."
Kerry was a co-sponsor of the Horse Slaughter Amendment, legislation that prohibits the slaughter of horses for human consumption. He also co-sponsored the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act which created felony-level penalties for violations of the federal law on dog fighting and cockfighting. In addition, Kerry was a co-sponsor of the Downed Animal Protection Act which prohibits USDA certification of meat from sick or injured livestock.
Every year the Humane Society Legislative Fund creates a federal Humane Scorecard to give a snapshot of the animal protection issues considered by the U.S. Congress. The scorecard tracks key votes as well as co-sponsorship of pro-animal bills. This is the sixth consecutive year that Senator Kerry has received a score of 100 percent.
