Gore and Kerry versus John McCain.
Has anyone else noticed all the attention the media pays to Senator McCain and all his opposition to President Obama. I understand he has even presented his own budget plan. And, all the while the media takes him seriously and never accuses him of sour grapes or being a sore loser. Media Matters has a wonderful post about the kid glove treatment the press is offering to McCain as opposed to the negative treatment afforded both Gore and Kerry. Just take for example this observation,

If Kerry, who lost the presidency by one state, and Gore, who lost by a Supreme Court vote, were expected to "shut up for a spell," as Dionne put it, surely we might expect the media to ask the same of John McCain following his blowout loss to Barack Obama. But the media have always had a different set of rules for John McCain, and their reaction to his loss is no different. For the first time in memory, the media have granted the loser of a presidential election the ability to dictate coverage of the president who defeated him.

All and all a good read, IMO with a lot of media hypocrisy.

1. Well, John McCain is a Republican
So that's different. That's why Karl Rove and Newt Gingrich are trotted out on the Today Show to provide their deep insights into Obama's policies.

That's why Norm Coleman can keep the Senate seat in Minnesota in limbo for YEARS if he wants.

Our media are owned by BIG corporations who LIKE Republican policies that make them really, really rich. And who cares about all of us little folk?

The double standard is appalling. George Bush made a fool of himself publicly on a regular basis, and it's okay. Barack Obama uses a teleprompter to deliver a prepared statement and it's THE story rather than the content of the statement.

Truthfully, the media have much to answer for ... the horrible ways they have presented both VP Gore and Sen Kerry affected the way the uneducated viewed them as candidates. Both men SHOULD have been president.
