Boston Arena May Be Named for Derek Jeter

BOSTON - The arena is in downtown Boston, the heart of Red Sox Nation. There couldn't be a bigger insult than to name it after the captain of the hated New York Yankees (news).

But that's just what Manhattan lawyer Kerry Konrad aims to do next Tuesday after his $2,325 bid won an eBay auction giving him the one-day naming rights to the FleetCenter.

Konrad's proposed name: the Derek Jeter Center, after the Yankee shortstop.

His winning bid threw the FleetCenter brass into a dilemma.

"I told him, 'I don't think we can approve that name,'" arena spokesman Jim Delaney said.

Thsi is appalling (and wicked funny at the same time.) Honestly, what's next, Beacon Hill to A-Rod Hill? Arrrrrggggghhhhhh!

appalled and laughing his ass off, same as me. (I mean, come on, this is pretty good vengeance in the war between Boston and New York.) And the guy who bought the rights, his first name is Kerry! (Heavens, is nothing sacred anymore?)

Kerry has a good baseball day coming up on Wednesday. He gets to give a Congressional Medal to the family of Jackie Robinson, then will take a ride up Pennsylvania Ave and go with the Boston Red Sox to the WH to get accolades from *. That should be a pretty good time. (Considering that the Red Sox owners worked hard for Kerry and all.)

4. It'll be interesting to see

how that comes off. Does Curt Schilling (who as far as I know is the only out-there * supporter on the team) get front and center? Is Theo going? He's a graduate of the same high school my kids all went to, and he comes from proud artsy liberal stock. The management is quite violently anti-Shrub.

I t helps to mend a very bad chapter in Red Sox history. I am so glad the new owners are showing so much class by honoring an American hero like Jackie Robinson. He was a class act all the way.
