Just a quickie about what is going on in the Congress about health care reform.
It was just announced that the Senate Dems have an agreement on how the issue of health care reform is going to come before the Senate. Either a bipartisan bill gets through the Senate, without facing a filibuster or health care will become a part of the budget process (reconciliation) and will only have to pass the Senate with a mere majority of 50 votes. (Filibusters, as we know, take 60 votes.)
Republicans are hopping mad about this. They are screaming that it is absolutely disgusting for the Dems to make something as important as health care part of a larger process. How dare they? (Republicans passed the Bush tax cuts, btw, under reconciliation in 2001. But, as we all know, when they do it, it's a righteous thing, right?)
Republicans have just been rendered irrelevant to the health care debate.
Ah, and just for kicks, Republicans are screaming that they will obstruct a lot more because they won't get to filibuster any health care reform. (Parse the logic of that for a sec, lol.) So, they are threatening to take this to the people. I really want to see those ads:
"Hi, I'm Senator No and I just want to warn you that the Democrats are using tricks to get you, the American people, decent affordable health care. Republicans believe that decent, affordable health care for you and your families is a democrat socialist plot and we intend to do everything we can to prevent Americans from getting this hellish health care "reform."
If you think, as we Republicans do, that health care access is a tool of the devil, join us. Together, we can stop Americans from getting decent, affordable health care. It's what Republicans do."
Seriously, I want to see those ads.
