Tomorrow. I would love to here his speech. I guess I will just have to wait and see if the Boston Globe covers it.

1. Thanks for posting about this!
I tried to call UM/Boston today and find out if there would be a webcast. The person I spoke to didn't think so (if you've ever tried to get into the campus at UMass/Boston, you'll know that it's something between a fortress and a prison in architectural style -- let's just say trying to navigate their website is not much different!) but couldn't tell me much more except that maybe there might be some footage archived a few days after the event.

How does a university these days not have some kind of webcast of their commencement??

4. Thanks, nice little writeup even if the writer used the word quip a little to often.

What is wrong with witty comment? (I won't go so far as to suggest joke, though)

5. Thanks so much for this! :)
Very nice reaccounting of the event. I loved the Senator's speech. So inspirational, especially at a time like this. Those graduates are so lucky to have him give their commencement! (I graduate in December and can only hope to have a speaker half as awesome for mine, lol ). I'm so happy for him for getting that medal, too. So deserved (and blue is a great color on him :)).

Hopefully there will be video soon, too!

7. The comments there are so hateful
and of course when I left a comment calling out the hatemongers and their vitriol , they didn't post it. I let them know how I felt about that.

8. I left one yesterday, too, and it never...
...posted either. I was very civil, too :7

Evidently they prefer Kerry-bashing to civil comment.

10. OMG, they posted
my 2nd comment telling them what I thought of how they treat positive responses of JK. I am A Citizen, damn I was so pissed when I wrote it that I made to many typos, oh well.

11. I saw that!
And another nice one from someone here in support of yours! The comments are largely from the usual group of idiots (they must have some sort of freeper alert whenever JK's name is invoked; their comments are usually generic vitriol and have little or nothing to do with what the article actually says) but at least I managed to make the very first comment this time a positive one and I like whoever wrote the one that said he was their hero!

9. I'm convinced that all comments posted on the Globe website
Come from freepers who live in their mothers' basements. They hate the Globe (then why do they read it so faithfully?), hate all Democrats, hate the government, etc., etc., etc.

22. I subscribe to the freeper -in-the-basement theory
(not that I understand them at all, but it does make sense that these are the guys writing this stuff).
I was reading a very OT article in the Globe today -- a front page article on water overuse in MA-- in case you're interested, it's at
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/06/07/in_mass_concerns_rising_on_water_overuse/). .then started to scroll through the comments. . and sure enough, according to #6 , this is the fault of "the junior senator", too! . :argh: Completely ridiculous.

23. But, but ... He likely needs to drink a lot of water on those long bike rides
Edited on Sun Jun-07-09 11:55 AM by karynnj
You can't blame it on watering his lawn - because town houses don't have big lawns. (I like his user name, ignorethis user, it is great advice. It is also strange that he brings up 6 SUVs, which, if they run on water, Kerry has been holding out on telling Detroit!)

I think it is the freeper in the basement, doing John Kerry google searches to find all the stories.

What is also clear is that JK did get two thirds of the vote this time - and he got more votes in his race than Obama did in his - suggesting that MA knows these freepers are nuts.

To get straight to JK, start watching at about one hour twenty-five minutes in.

15. Watching it now..
He's so funny! Don't want to give away too much to those who haven't seen it yet (don't want to spoil it for anybody), but the quips about Flomax and Viagra and about Limbaugh and Keith Olbermann (two different jokes, mind you. lol :P) are hysterical! Whoever said he didn't have a sense of humor? :D

The serious parts are great and very inspirational, too. Just a great address all around. He's such a gifted speaker.

16. Just watched it - he was really good
He really does a nice job at these commencements. I still think that no one else has yet bested Kerry's way of making alternative energy an exciting, optimistic subject. (In 2004, in addition to the benefits mentioned here, he included national security.) EVERY Democrat has tried to copy the enthusiasm and the idealism - none have done as well. Including Obama, who is a gifted speaker. His comments on this in 2004 were broke records on focus group, but even though some part of it was included in every stump speech, mostly it was heard just by those of us led by the Kerry/Edwards blog to CSPAN who heard it.

I really think if that part of his stump speech had gotten coverage, he would have won easily. His sincerity, enthusiasm and idealism speaking on this was contagious. Wouldn't a 3 minute excerpt of this have been better than 3 minutes of snark on Carville and Begala's show? They were among the few Democrats controlling TV time - and they spent their time whining that he wasn't Bill Clinton.

17. You've nailed it in three words
"Sincerity, enthusiasm and idealism" and it is indeed contagious. I agree that if more people could have seen that John Kerry on TV in 2004, he would have won the election. Unfortunately, he had to impress crowds community by community (which he did!) with little national coverage and, in the 21st century, that's not enough. When he starts to get wound up in his vision and really let forth with the fire and passion, it's impossible not to be inspired. This speech was no different.

Blessings on whoever filmed the WHOLE THING and put it up for us!

18. I am astonished that he was able to do so here
In the rain, with what sounded like a nasty cold and only recently back from a trip to China, where he met with leaders on global warming , North Korea and other issues. Preceded by having spent the prior weekend at the World Economic Forum in Jordan.

Yet there he was inspiring, funny and engaging the students with a plea for them to become politically engaged.

He has an indomitable spirit! But I wish he didn't have allergies/colds so often. I always feel so bad for him!
