My daughter had a great grad school audition yesterday, so I've been smiling nonstop for nearly 24 hours now.

23. your daughter going to grad school too?

Our 22 year old just accepted an offer from University of Minnesota; it had been her #1 choice, so she's really happy; they had the best program for her particular major. I'm glad she's staying in the Mid-west for few more years; the older two have moved to the West Coast.

We're not in formal acceptance territory yet, but we have it on very good authority that her chances are excellent. And she'd be living here too, which is a bonus for us. It's a conservatory program, and I'm so excited for her.

Edit: Ambitious is a wonderful thing in my book. It means you both a vision of where you want to go, the brains to figure out the route and the drive to get there. I applaud this in women, especially, since ambition in women often gets translated into witchy and naggy. That is not so on an epic scale. Intelligent ambitious women rule!

I'm proud of all three of my kids. Our older daughter has two masters degrees --(and she's promised to kick the habit now!) :) First she taught ESL, then she wanted to go into Translation. That's why she's in Paris right now, translating French to English for business firms. But it's only a three-month stint, and she'll be back at the end of next month. Here in the states she's a free-lancer, unless/until she finds something permanent. Both she and her husband each speak three languages.

The younger daughter is the one soon to enter grad school, and will become a school psychologist with a specialized Master's, which will take three years. She would then have the option of going all the way to a PhD, or not.

The kid in the middle is our son, who is going into computer animation. He's attending the Art Institute of Portland right now. Hopes to have his name in some film credits one day. He graduates at the end of this summer, and they tell me he's really talented. He's a newlywed, just married in June to a graphic designer. Both artists, both Sagittarius!

Needless to say, I'm worried for the kind of America they will have to live in. Worried about the draft, worried about how they will ever make it to financial stability. It's hard when rents are so high, along with everything else. It takes two incomes to equal what one used to provide for. All the kids and kids-in-law are Dems or Greens, and all voted for Kerry. That's the best part!:)

I don't have it, but saw it on the official website one day. It disappeared the next, so the only ones who have it would be those who quickly copied it to their hard drives. What it was, was a picture of a rally during a rainstorm, and JK had wet hair kind of flattened down--I think it was at night. Has anyone seen this one, or does anyone have it? I really liked it--wish I'd have copied it.

Chris really grew on me during the campaign. I don't remember much about him before last year, he was not on my radar. But I really came to like him. I think he has a lot of integrity and grit, like his mother. And he seems to have a nice relationship with his step-father. They seem to get along very well together.

that he considered it and flirted with the idea, but decided to concentrate on his media venture instead. I also read that Hillary is not going to run. (She isn't up for the shitstorm that would descend on her head. I don't blame her because she and her husband have been through enough. But nobody died and elected me Gawd. I could be wrong.

I've noted that Hillary never said herself that she'd run, but then she never shot down the idea when others floated it (re 2008) either. I hope this turns out to be true and she doesn't change her mind. She should be in the Senate. If we get a majority either next year or in '08, then she could end up in an important position.

And as for Gore... my opinion has been that he had his chance in 2004 and opted out. The media thing is also very important; a big problem over the past few years has been Fox News and the subsequent bandwagon leaping by other stations to copy Fox's formula of pandering to the right and dumbing down political discourse.

Here I am going wonkish on a picture thread, so I'll stop.

That '08 picture.... WOW. Considering the date when it was made. That's prophetic, I'd be willing to say. I wonder if he still has that shirt. Maybe we should all send notes to Teresa advising her to put it prominently in his favorite chair or something. :evilgrin:

20. Well Kerry did stick up for Weld

when Jesse Helms bottled up the Ambassadorship to Mexico in Committee. (And Kerry had recommened Weld to the Dem Pres.) That was such a nice gesture on Kerry's part. But it didn't help. Weld folded up his tent and disappeared from Massachusetts.

Did you hear that Weld might run for Gov of New York. He told a paper there that he was just a carpetbagger in MA, but was a native New Yorker and would be running as a native. As far as I know, he hasn't eexactly created a stir among New Yorkers.

They filmed a great commercial with Kerry spending time with his daughters. It was very nice and sweet and reminded voters that he wasn't just a liberal 'nuclear freeze' wonk, but also a Dad with really cute kids that he obviously adored.)
