Kerry has an article in The Daily Beast today: Mother Nature's Nuclear Strike
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-07-08/mother-natures-nuclear-strike/?cid=hp:beastoriginalsL3

On August 6, 2001, President George W. Bush famously received an intelligence briefing entitled, “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.” Thirty-six days later, al Qaeda terrorists did just that.

Today, as the leaders of the G-8 and the members U.S. Senate simultaneously debate climate-change policy shifts, scientists tell us we have a 10-year window—if even that—before catastrophic climate change becomes inevitable and irreversible. So I’ve put together the briefing that needs to be read by every American—before it’s the Day After.

The scientific community agrees that climate change is real, human activity is contributing to it, and the window for doing something about it is closing rapidly.

Go to the link to read the rest. It is on the front page of the website. I am glad Sen. Kerry is contributing to HuffPo and The Daily Beast. Although I have issues with both sites (well, I have issues with pretty much every site -- none are perfect), they are new media and run by women. Good that Kerry is putting himself out there on new media which like it or not is the future.

1. Holy crap: a bunch of wing nuts are commenting. I put in a few comments
but I am done. Sorry, but I defer to the IPCC, and am not going to engage in big scientific arguments with a bunch of ignoramuses.

9. One of the (many) things I like about John Kerry..
...he knows just how to get to these Freeper types. :D He aggitates them like few other Dems I've seen (and considering how they generally feel about us, that's saying something!) I think he's second to only President Obama, the Clintons, and maybe a few others in the pure vile they show towards him, which I don't like, but I think it also says something that he gets to them in that way. Shows he must be doing something right.

But apart from that, they are not worth the time, as the article (like many things) has appeared to go right over their heads..

2. I am so glad I didn't hit submit
After seeing the first comment, I wrote this -

John Kerry has been involved on this issue since the late 1980s when he was a member of Gore's subcommittee which held the first Senate hearing on global warming. Even before that he was active on other environmental issues. He was one of the speakers at the 1970 Boston earth day celebration. In addition, as LT Governor of MA, he was instrumental in getting the NE governors' conference to adopt a cap and trade program to fight acid rain. There was a good reason Gore in 2004 said that Kerry had the best environmental record in the Senate.

but luckily saw your post first.

3. Hey, what can I say -- great minds think alike :)
I think at this point we could practically be finishing each other's sentences on the Most Commonly Attacked Attributes of John Kerry.

4. I know
:) There are some very good comments by people who know a lot more of the science than I do there. The RW stand out because they are just throwing idiotic garbage.

5. Here's a stupid CBN take on Kerry's op-ed
http://blogs.cbn.com/hurdontheweb/archive/2009/07/09/john-kerry-compares-global-warming-to-nuclear-strike.aspx

I guess they forgot that taking care of the earth bit that they are supposed to believe in.

6. I saw that on google, didn't even click it. Anyone who doesn't take
global warming seriously -- I simply cannot take seriously.
