Nice story about Bruce Springsteen and John Kerry
Apparently, Bruce is appearing on the next cover of AARP magazine (amazing, isn't it?). And The Washington Examiner has this little excerpt:

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/politics/blogs/yeas-and-nays/52100762.html

As part of a Springsteen profile in the current AARP magazine, Kerry says, "What you might not know is that in the aftermath of that bruising race, when I was pretty bruised myself, long after the crowds had gone away, Bruce was one of the first to visit me, and he brought that guitar I'd listened to on the campaign trail. And you know that guitar he gave me remains my proudest possession of the whole campaign. In good times and bad, he had my back, and that's all the honor in your life you can ever hope for."

Just another reason to love The Boss!! A loyal and decent person.

1. That is a wonderful story.
Friends that stick with you in the lean times are incredibly valuable. Gifts from God like that should be treasured.

2. That comment really shows the type of person Springfield is
I remember Springsteen's wonderful words in support of Kerry when he appeared with him.

Years ago - around 2003, I took my oldest daughter to Ashbury Park to see a Joan Jett concert. We live far away enough that we stayed at a seaside hotel that was nearly deserted. In the restaurant, The waitress and my daughter ended up speaking about the local concerts. When asked, her favorite was a clear and unmistakable choice - Springsteen. Not because of his music - which she liked, but because of things he did for the community.

Ashbury Park was a pretty depressed area. She spoke of how he spoke to and engaged with young underprivileged kids like her son. She credits him with convincing her son to stay away from the drugs and crime in the area. This made me think that the comments he made before playing at Kerry's concert were not just words, but heartfelt believes. It is easy to understand why he broke his no politics rule in 2004 and why he made this lovely gesture of visiting Kerry after the lost and giving him a guitar. They are two good people.

3. When an artist is a "good guy", I treat that as a bonus. The fact
remains, though, that it is the music he makes which is why Bruce Springsteen is such a gift to the world.

4. Of course - We've gone to a few of his concerts and have the cds
He is great. (The song Kerry used was a great way to preface him appearing - one thing that surprised me is that if there is a non-elitist songwriter/singer it is Bruce Springsteen - yet no one ever commented on Kerry's choice as being as regular guy as you can get.)

6. Thanks for the video posting Beachmom, I hadn't seen it.
Springsteen is magical in concert. I have never been to a bad show. He relates to us all on a personal level-even though now he is a very wealthy man. I went to see him in May and someone in the audience call out for him to play Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" and he did and I have never experienced an entire stadium audience singing along with the same passion to the words in this song. It was something I will always remember.

Like A Rolling Stone
Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?
People'd call, say, "Beware doll, you're bound to fall"
You thought they were all kiddin' you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hangin' out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal.

How does it feel
How does it feel
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?

10. Hi Beachmom!
I've got a new computer which does not crash on KOS, so I was able to get on to rec JK's thread.

I'm still burned out by politics, been back online for about a month, but mostly I've been hanging in the lounge.

How have you been?

I am as well, yet I can't stay away, like watching a car wreck, I guess. I can't look away!! :)
