I renewed - just so I could share this Ed O'Reilly email with you all
and hopefully start your long weekend off with a big laugh:

Seriously Considering the U.S. Senate Race

I need your help and appreciate your thoughts!

As you may be aware, I am seriously considering entering the U.S. Senate race.

Although this special election may be quite different from last year’s Democratic Primary, I am the only potential Democratic candidate who has run for the U.S. Senate.

A year ago, more than 160,000 Massachusetts Democrats (31%), from all across this state, voted for change!

We stood for ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, insuring quality and affordable health care for all Americans through a Single Payer System, speaking loudly for the full repeal of DOMA and protecting civil liberties, promoting locally controlled renewable energy projects, and giving working people an equal voice in Washington by limiting the influence of special interests.

I will be making my decision by Thursday, September 10th and your opinions and thoughts are important to me. If you could take a little time and write to ed@edoreilly.com, I would definitely appreciate your thoughts and comments.

Thank you and I wish you and your loved ones a very Happy Labor Day!

Ed

I doubt very much whether EOR would actually appreciate my thoughts on the matter, but who am I to interfere with a man's right to humiliate himself?

P.S. I've been seriously off politics, but never off JK. I almost signed back on a few days ago just to opine on the August beard. Happy Labor Day to all of you!!

3. It's funny -
at first I loathed it, then I sort of liked it, and then I loathed it again. On balance, I think it makes him look much older, and sort of like a very well-dressed hobo. :D

There was a comment on HuffPo that it made him look like House (l LOVE House), but he hasn't got the Mr. Crankypants scowl to go along with it. I don't think it's really JK's style.

P.S. EOR? definitely crazy.

All things that Senator Kerry stands for as well, only he has realistic solutions to actually get these things (or the closest possible to them) done.

I think of this picture and really feel for JK at the prospect of having to have EOR as his fellow Senator! :D:

lol.

Of course I think we all know that probably won't happen..

6. Not that I believe in any way in judging on appearances,
but EOR looks exactly like an angry troll in that picture.

Having been on the receiving end of his stream of emails for quite some time now, I can confidently state that the man is not in touch with reality. He has just enough loud and encouraging supporters to allow him to (delusionally) think he's backed by "the people." He's not. If it weren't for local anger at JK for supporting Obama over Hillary and residual resentment over his presidential run, EOR could probably count on the votes of his immediate family and the pathological JK haters. And that's about it.

5. So glad to see you, Whometense!! Hope all is going well with you.
As to EOR, yeah, that is funny but .... let's not forget what a jerk he is. God, to have to see his "blogger friends" on the internet again is reason enough not to want to see him run.

7. Thanks - all well,
and insanely busy. Someone told me life would ease off after the kids got older, but it's apparently not true - in our house, anyway.

EOR is such a jerk, it boggles the mind that even his family can vote for him, let alone his "blogger friends." I have a feeling things will be different this time, if he decides to run. JK is the senior senator and very few will be tempted to replace Ted Kennedy with someone so eminently unsuited for the job. These are serious times. Martha Coakley is a serious person. EOR is NOT.

8. Great to see you!
EOR is delusional. I guess he doesn't get that the others never ran for Senate because they are all legally sane and knew that anyone would lose badly. Not to mention, those positions are not change from Kerry and Kennedy. I noticed that even on Blue Mass no one is interested in him.

10. I've been lurking occasionally,
just to keep up with all of you. As I said to luftmensch in an email, I've missed you, but really hate giving DU any money. I've come to the conclusion from sitting on the sidelines that my relationship with a lot of - if not most - democrats and "progressives" is, um, complicated.

I do love you guys, though, and miss talking with you.

16. We're in the same boat
I almost exclusively lurk now, except for stirring the pot in GD sometimes. Me and DU just aren't a good fit anymore - I share your "complicated" relationship with Democrats and "progressives."

That aside, how the hell are you?? I've missed you and everyone else from this forum. I just wanted to pop in and say that now, because I'm pretty sure my star is going to run out very soon and I don't really have any intention of renewing it. I've definitely fallen away from politics - at least, in the obsessive blogging 24/7 way - but I will always appreciate getting to know every single one of you, and all the wonderful experiences we had supporting and getting to know JK. He'll always be my favorite :)

11. Thanks,
:)

Being away from political discussion has certainly clarified a few things for me - and the number one thing is that the world would be a much, much better place today if JK had been inaugurated in 2005. As for the rest of it - well, up and down. I'm grateful he didn't allow the experience to chase him out of public life, and I'm still grieved at how many people fail to grasp who he is and what he has/had to offer.

As for EOR - if MA can survive another Mittens presidential run, then it can survive another EOR run at a senate seat. The man is a boor and a clown, but as you say, it's a free country...

13. on the Republican side. . .
Curt Schilling ineligible to run as Republican candidate :)

http://www.politico.com/blogs/scorecard/0909/Schilling_ineligible_to_run_as_Republican.html

Schilling, who has enthusiastically campaigned for former President Bush and John McCain in past presidential elections, has said that he’s a registered Independent voter. Massachusetts election law requires that anyone seeking a party nomination to be enrolled with the party for at least 90 days before the Nov. 3 deadline for filing nomination papers with the state Elections Division.

15. Thank goodness for small favors...
at least we won't have to listen to his political blather. Why anyone would want to hear what the guy has to say on any subject other than baseball is beyond me. It's a measure of how desperate MA republicans are that they'd even consider him.

18. Our work here is done.
New EOR email:

I will not be a Candidate for U.S. Senate

After careful deliberation and honest personal reflection, I have decided NOT to seek election to the United States Senate in the upcoming Massachusetts special election.

Since last September’s Democratic Primary Challenge to Senator Kerry, I have returned to my criminal defense law practice. Nearly thirty years ago, I took an oath to represent my clients zealously AND to the best of my ability. While I contemplated my candidacy, it became apparent that I could not uphold my oath as an attorney and also run in a statewide election, at this time.

I want to thank the hundreds of people who have offered their ideas and support over the last several days. Your kindness and thoughtfulness has been heartfelt.

Thank you!

Ed

20. This is good news - I hope this is the last we hear of him
This statement is priceless:

"Nearly thirty years ago, I took an oath to represent my clients zealously AND to the best of my ability. While I contemplated my candidacy, it became apparent that I could not uphold my oath as an attorney and also run in a statewide election, at this time."

Now, I would say, many attorneys, who took the same oath honored it with a career of public service. But, O'Reilly seems more suited to zealously working to get people off on drunk driving charges. I assume that he made enough calls to see that he would have to finance this election the same way he did the first - with no much greater chance of success.

22. I would have imagined that he would get no traction
I think, other than in the very left fringe, where some took his adoption of a the MA party platform as his own, he was supported by "independents" who had no Republican primary to vote in and angry Clinton supporters. He was ABK. Here, he would be one of many.

23. An article from Gloucester confirming he is not running
He really does seem deluded that he has some support. I liked the first comment though.

"It is humiliating to Gloucester that such a person has to be listed as "from Gloucester."

The bottom of the human barrel"
