They REALLY hate John Kerry, and also side with Republicans a lot. Check out this post which just came up on the Google:

seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/19180

(add http:// to beginning to get url)

Read the diary and then read the comments. Thing is, this is not some anonymous poster, and this hate Kerry post is not the first (I read one a couple months ago but did not post it). This is a section of FDL which is approved by the site's owners. This is a blog full of hate. And I am going to go out on a limb here. FDL is going the way of No Quarter (Larry Johnson's blog). They are so far left, they basically are in alliance with the right. I mean, they are siding with McConnell over Kerry's request to have the vote on Friday, not Saturday. They are going after him in very bitter hateful ways.

I know some think FDL is just another liberal blog. I would argue that it has jumped the shark and has transformed into an anti-Obama anti-Democratic blog and will treat it as such. The fact that Jane has paid DailyKos diarists to spread a watered down verion of FDL to the bigger more mainstream dkos is troubling. And frankly, I have read one too many screeds like the above post to draw my conclusion that FDL is a freeper site. That's right, lefty freepers.

1. wow, this really is bad
They've always been lefties, but they've gotten way more strident. And this particular post is just nuts: way out of balance (and not even logical!). "Screed" really is the word
At one time, they used to actually express appreciation for Kerry; and I never remember their taking him on like this.

2. ABSOLUTELY AGREE!! I posted a bit of a rant here last night after reading some trash.
I have had enough of FDL and their hate. They are as bad as the teabaggers. And I am getting real sick of Oberman and Maddow too. They fail to understand the nature of Congress and to consider there needs to be consensus and compromise. And, they are so cocky to think theirs' is the only correct course on the matter of health care. Can you imagine a Congress run by these people?

3. As opposed to Ezra Klein who was on Charlie Rose's show last night
He actually said that though the media (and he included himself) always expects the President to control Congress and set their agenda, and blames our CinC accordingly whenever things aren't progressing, it's actually our CONGRESS that's currently broken and that the filibuster is destroying any chances of momentum and that our need for consensus is both greater than it's been in decades and less possible.

8. Ezra's passion is contagious! He really is at the top of his game at the moment.
And he is civilly engaging FDLers on Twitter. He doesn't give up and is confident in his arguments. He also changed the village's perception of Joe Lieberman, and had a fight with a fellow colleague at the WP. He is doing a good job, so therefore, he needs to have his character impugned ... (see downthread post)

9. Don't you know
that Ezra is the new David Broder? As per one of FDL's Kos reps at least.

Demoralized :-(.

5. They really are obnoxious
The sad thing is that he even went there once a few years ago though I can't remember on what. Their attacks are ridiculous and absolutely mischaracterize the McConnell/Kerry exchange. He was obnoxious, Kerry was very diplomatic and soft spoken. He made the request politely and giving good reasons. McConnell was just nasty.

It is really wrong that she is paying DK diaryists - and I don't think they are disclosing that. I wonder where HER funding comes from.

10. In fairness
they are disclosing it, or at least they are NOW. I don't think they were, or not very clearly, earlier on.

7. This front page DailyKos post takes the cake.
They are going after Josh Marshall, Matthew Yglesias, Ezra Klein, and Kevin Drum by saying that their reasonable position on hcr is suspect since they went along with the Iraq War invasion (and I didn't check the links -- I am SURE they were not happy about it, much like Kerry)

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/12/16/815365/-An-Observation-on-the-Split-in-the-Progressive-Blogosphere#c319

So basically, they are going after some of the most respected voices in the liberal blogosphere. The voices who I actually admire and enjoy reading. This is really a low blow.

I missed the primary wars, but I remember early 2005 when they got the knives out for Kerry. This feels the same way. I weighed in:

http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2009/12/16/16229/635/321#c321

Of course, I really need to take a break from that site. Today, when I brought up separation of powers and the limits of presidential power (and yes, it was a slightly snarky comment), I was upbraided by someone who then said he had a law degree. As in, he is better and smarter, blah, blah, blah. The jerk to nice person ratio at Kos has skyrocketed.

11. Hey, he could have been a bad lawyer. And, that doesn't mean he knows one damn thing about
Constitutional law.
