As we've all watched the election to fill the seat held by Senator Kennedy unfold, we've heard a lot of overheated, factually-challenged rhetoric from Attorney General Coakley's opponent in this race; but his loudest claim continues to be that the landmark health care reform bill in the Senate is bad for Massachusetts. Simply put, this is wrong.
We are proud that this national health reform began with a break-through in Massachusetts. The debate in Washington is informed by the fact that Massachusetts' health reform has helped more than 400,000 of our citizens obtain quality, affordable health insurance coverage, and that Massachusetts today has the lowest rate of uninsured Americans in the nation - 2.7 percent.

If national health reform was going to somehow slow our progress in Massachusetts, we would oppose it. But the bill we passed through the Senate will do tremendous good in Massachusetts, as it will in every other state. The Senate bill:
