Scott Brown rules out 2012 presidential run, backs Romney

Massachusetts Republican Senator Scott Brown said this morning he was ruling out a presidential run in 2012 and that he supported former Bay State governor Mitt Romney in the race.

"Yes, absolutely, 2012, I'm ruling it out," Brown told interviewer Jamie Gangel on NBC-TV's "Today" show. When Gangel asked if he might run someday, Brown sidestepped, saying, "I'm not even going to jump at that. Nice try."

1. Did he rule out VP?

This said, why is this guy again on TV?

And once again, he makes no sense:

"Well, I'm going to support Governor Romney, and I'm going to see who's out there in the field and then make my decision," he told Gangel.

Which is it? Is he going to support Romney, or is he going to see who is running and then decide.

Please, Dems, fill somebody who is good and can beat this idiot?

3. He can't be Romney's VP, if Romney is stil a MA resident

Not to mention, it is not clear what - other than gaffes Scott Brown brings to the ticket. Romney already has the good looking (in a plastic way) vote - and though older has better hair. Brown's is already receding.

As to him being asked if he is running, the closest recent Democratic equivalent is Edwards. He was pushed by some Democrats and media almost as soon as he was elected because he was considered a good looking guy, with an attractive family, who won in a state where a win was not then expected. But, long before there was any scandal, voters rejected him in state after state in the primary. Though less prone to gaffes, there was simply not enough there when people looked at the alternatives.

4. Who knows from which state Romney will be in 2012.

Right now, he is registered in my town, though he does not have a residence yet (some condo he bought but that is not yet ready), but he certainly will not hesitate to change his residence to his house in New Hampshire if he thinks it will help him.

This said, I was joking, Brown is an idiot who cant even express his support for somebody in a way that does not require explanations afterwards. I dont see who in their right mind would choose him, but, once again, McCain chose Palin, so, who knows?

6. I knew it was sarcasm, but also thought of the fact that he has some of the Palin appeal, without

all of the Palin baggage. I think there is a certain cynicism among powers in both parties on who the little people who vote want. I can see them seeing Brown as a charming, charismatic person that people would vote for. Just as they thought that GWB was or when the Republican party thought Palin would be the game changer that McCain needed or the Democratic powers who pushed Edwards as bringing energy and charisma to Kerry's ticket.

In a way, the spotlight of the media and his apparent inability to get talking points and use them intelligently will likely create enough gaffes by then, that he will simply be on the list of the people likely to be defeated in 2012. It is pathetic that he did not simply concede he was wrong on the jobs numbers - when the only source he had denied that was where the number came from.

Is Romney still a MA resident? If he is, he can't have Scotty as his VP. Has he found his source of the 33,000 job losses if Dodd's bill passes yet?

As to some day, that might mean he needs to win re-election.

13. You can, but you then can't get the states electoral votes

It was mentioned as an issue with Bush/Cheney who were really both from Texas. Cheney changed his residence to Wyoming. The Democrats could have challenged that early, but they didn't.

(In reality as MA would likely go Democrat against a Romney/Brown ticket I guess it wouldn't matter.

16. I heard that and my internal comment was

that first he is going to support Romney and THEN he is going to make up his mind ==> not the lightest bulb out there. He seems to be in Palin teritory in terms of nonsensical statements, but still, once over the outrage that he is Teddy's replacement, quite a lot less offensive than Palin. That woman makes me feel like something slimy is crawling on my skin.

8. From USA Today, he brought up his basketball challenge to Obama again!

Brown joked that he's been challenging President Obama to a round of basketball but hasn't heard back. "Maybe when he needs a vote," NBC reporter Jamie Gangel said. Brown shot back: "Maybe when he needs somebody who can shoot."

But, he doesn't sound as good as Obama -

Brown renewed his challenge to President Obama to face him in a game for charity. A week after he was elected in January, Brown challenged the president to a two-on-two contest, but the challenge so far remains unanswered.

Brown said he still hopes it will happen.

“Hopefully, we can do something similar to raise money for our favorite charities,” he said. “I think people would want to pay to see it and have some fun.”

Brown started cold, clanking several shots off the rim in the first half. His shooting woes continued into the second half until he finally hit a 15-foot jumper in the fourth quarter. Moments later, he stole the ball around midcourt and scored two on an easy lay-up.

From his announcing his daughters were "available" to his now constant repetition that Obama should play basket ball with him to this bit of silliness also from today.

In the skit, which aired in February, actors playing Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), and Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) 'swoon' over John Hamm, who plays Brown. As soon as Hamm winks at them, they become spellbound.
