The development at the former Catholic church has received $400,000 in federal appropriations, money the developer and mayor wanted to thank Kerry for.
"He's really helping us with it and has been a great supporter," said Lisa Alberghini, president of the Planning Office for Urban Affairs, the development wing of the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston yesterday afternoon. "We let him know we're moving forward."

"I think Salem has so many great amenities," he added, before leaving in his hybrid SUV.
The mayor said she was pleased to have Kerry in town.
"We have a lot of big plans," she said.
