JK statement on MA victories

Strong, positive, feisty statement. . . and he's absolutely right

Tonight’s clean sweep underscores that despite massive outside spending and prevailing political winds, Massachusetts Democrats win when they take nothing for granted, fight hard, and stand proud of the people and values they represent. Deval Patrick, Tim Murray, Barney Frank, Bill Keating, and many, many others reminded Massachusetts tonight that some things really are worth fighting for, and that’s a big big lesson not just for Democrats but for everyone, everywhere.

and, yeah, in this bizarre election, I guess it does stand out that our majority prevailed. And it is a further distinction that no one like Toomey or Angle or O'Donnell or Miller or any of the other far-right loonies were even in serious danger of being election. My only warning for you, though, is, "Remember Scott Brown".

The lesson of Massachusetts is that
1: special Elections are insane and anything can happen;
2: people want to be asked "Pretty please with sugar on top" for their votes;
3: Stop screwing around and back each other. Stop the in-fighting, it only hurts us.

Personally, I think Pres. Obama needs to remember the lesson from "Ghostbusters": "If someone asks you if you're a god, say you're a god." Obama was asked after '08 if he was a god to be feared. He said no, he was a nice reasonable guy. Bzzzt, wrong answer. I am a god, fear my wrath. Otherwise, you get slimed.

Sigh, still time for a retake Mr. Obama, but get to it, sir!

BTW, I feel awful about Joe Sestak. So close. Any other year, Joe pulls it out. I am so sorry. It was a matter of bad timing for a very good candidate.

8. Great news, and congratulations to those in MA who did not fall for the

"state is becoming GOP" meme, stood on their principles, read the polls correctly and understood that Democrats did not show up in January and that their role was to make sure they voted yesterday.

My son voted for the first time, and was thrilled to vote for Deval Patrick and even more thrilled he won.

He is in China for the fall semester and voted by mail. I guess he is happy too.

I am very happy and I hope you are also that nothing happened in Massachusetts, in the way that Patrick got reelected, and all state senators and congressman are still democrats.

10. My faith in the MA electorate has been (mostly) restored

With all the repub challenges to our congress critters, and that creep Baker going after Patrick, I was worried that there might be a repeat or two of Scott Brown. Thankfully, the Dems pulled it off yet again. Brown's victory might have emboldened a bunch of folks, but his coat tails proved to be somewhat short.

This gives me hope that defeating Brown in '12 won't be an impossible feat.

According to the MassINC Polling Group poll results, Baker registered a 13 percent advantage over Patrick among male voters and won by 14 percent among unenrolled voters, while losing among Democrats by a 79-14 spread and losing the female vote by 24 points.

Since September, I have been perplexed by the way Baker was wooing women, as if he was talking to Stepford wives from the 1950s. Stories about him showing his friendship armwrists and how he cries at his daughter's concerts. His two videos with his wife as well as the interviews they gave together made me cringe as well. Frankly, I am not surprised that women did not vote for him. All in his campaign reflected a very weird and antiquated view of women.

unenrolled voters also did not go enough to him, much less than they did for Brown. Too bad men cannot see through the facade.

to get the female vote. All kidding aside, though: This might even point to a likely loss for Scott Brown in '12, as it is apparent that the unenrolled and Dem vote for Brown seems to have been a protest vote and not a permanent shift towards republicans.

15. Same here - Teresa was entirely herself and JK obviously took her seriously - and he should have.

Teresa here is awesome and the opposite of Baker's wife.

I suspect that a good candidate will be essential to win. The media seems a little less in love with Brown and he has a really tough position. He may have many difficult votes where if he goes too much towards cooperation, he could get primaried by the loony tea party that seems to have learned nothing. If he votes against too many things MA supports, his good looks may not be enough. It would be interesting if the media stopped covering up his less than brilliant speeches. I think there is a reason that the Face the Nation was - I think _ his first and last national talk show appearance. I think MA has higher expectations - maybe because they had Kennedy and Kerry and many brilliant long term Congressmen - and he is clearly in over his head.

If that doesn't matter - maybe the fact that he appears to be losing hair may. (Just joking)
