Sad news on LBN and GD, Elizabeth Edwards has taken a turn for the worse
I feel so sorry for her and her family. She really was dealt a terrible hand. (I felt I had to post something here, because I felt it better not to touch the bigger threads, because I have too often pointed out negative things and I don't want my name there to bother anyone - many of whom will likely mourn her for some time.

1. yes, I saw that
Very graceful statement.
I have the complex feelings, too, but she has indeed been dealt a terrible hand. And for health stuff to coincide with marital issues: way way too cruel (though they often are linked events, but still, it's more than anyone deserves)

2. This makes me so sad.
I may be in the minority here in the JK group, but I've always admired Elizabeth. I thought that during the '04 campaign she did a much better job of explaining the issues than her (then) husband did. She's also the person who lead me to DU - I heard her mention it during a television interview. I don't know why bad things happen to good people - I've seen it all happen all too often lately.

My heart goes out to Elizabeth and her family, especially her children.

4. I'm sad for her and her children
Yes, I was not always very fond of her, but nobody deserves the tragic things that happened to her. The worst is that she will not see her younger children grow up, get to have grandkids, and find late happiness with a new mate.

My prayers go out to Elizabeth and her family. She has been through so much, and it breaks my heart to learn that she's not doing well. Really sad.

of being on the Kerry campaign and how sad it all was.

In the accompanying article, it seems the entire family, including John, was by her side, which was good to hear.

9. Very sad to hear this
Having a relative currently getting hospice care, this is very sad news to hear, especially around the holiday time.

Thoughts and prayers are with EE, the children and the Edwards family. :(

13. beautiful statement by Sen. Kerry
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) today released the following statement on the passing of Elizabeth Edwards:

This is very sad news, and the fact that it isn’t a surprise makes it no easier to hear. Elizabeth Edwards was an incredibly loving, giving, and devoted mother, and Teresa and our entire family are grateful for the time we shared getting to know her in 2004. We have many wonderful memories of those days traveling the country and seeing firsthand Elizabeth’s great affection for Cate, Jack, and Emma Claire. Today all those moments are rushing back.

“The same day our campaign ended at Faneuil Hall, we saw Elizabeth head off to Mass General to confront this terrible disease. America came to know her in a different and even more personal way, as she fought back with enormous grace and dignity. She became an inspiration to so many. Teresa and I, along with our family, send our prayers and deepest sympathies to Elizabeth’s family and the children she loved so much.”
