JK to attend EE's funeral
RALEIGH, N.C. — John Edwards’ 2004 running mate will be attending the funeral service for Elizabeth Edwards.

A spokeswoman for John Kerry said Friday the Massachusetts senator plans to attend Saturday’s ceremony. John Edwards was Kerry’s vice presidential candidate when the Democratic ticket lost to George W. Bush six years ago.

For those of you who wish to see some coverage of the service, you can go to WRAL.com (the local TV station). I think some of it may be streamed. Coverage starts 12:30 EDT tomorrow. I will also be posting a diary late in the day at the Daily Kos if you wish to stop by.

Again, my thanks to the KerryCrats, and especially to John and Teresa Kerry.

1. I'm not surprised, it was clear that he respected her and he had spoken of
speaking to her during the worst of times. Thanks Benny and I will look forward to seeing your diary.

By the way, tomorrow is Kerry's 67th birthday.

2. I knew he had a birthday coming up
Not the way I would want to spend my birthday, but that is extremely considerate.

I remember when you all sent that card around to personally sign it for one of his b-days.

FYI EE's was the day before mine, just 10 years older and she said hello sometimes when I blogged about the occasion at Benny'w World.

Benny

3. I heard many JK people speak well of Elizabeth
andI know that many of the staff I worked and spoke with over the years admired her devotion to her family, her idealism and her grit. She will be missed by many, many people.

My deepest sympathies Benny. This is indeed a great loss for our country.

Elizabeth's close friend from law school just got done speaking. Beautiful. I am in tears. Such a loving, beautiful tribute but so sad! Especially the part where he talked about Jack and Emma Claire and how Elizabeth had already had "this Christmas all planned for them and possibly the next couple of Christmases as well".

What an inspiration this lady was/still is. I will always admire her. May she be at peace with her beloved Wade. Much peace and comfort also to her children and the whole family.

Yes, it's wonderful of Senator Kerry to have made the trip to NC to be there, on his birthday of all days. But I am not surprised. The man is a true class act! And he obviously counted Elizabeth as a good friend.

Much condolences to the family and everyone who loved her. She will never be forgotten!!

5. The three speeches were so moving
Two friends who knew her -- all sides of her -- and recalled their long friendship with Elizabeth with affection and wisdom understanding. (What better tribute could there be than the testimony of those friends such as these? }I loved the man's comment along the lines of "I hate that statement about 'live each day as if it's your last'. NO, live each day to the fullest because it's IMPORTANT'> YEAH. I'll have to look at archived video to get his exact words. .. (
And her daughter Cate trying so hard to keep it together as she read her piece.. .

Also, the pastor's remarks at the end, saying so pointedly-- and repeatedly ("Let me say it again. . " that the hyper-judgmental condemnation by so-called "Christians" is not what Jesus preached. (Music to my ears. And he said it as a white guy, in the South. YES).

Thought I saw back of Sen. Kerry's head in the right front, near the center, in the second or third row.. yes???

6. I loved what the pastor said, too. It needs to be said by more in his position imo..
A truly beautiful service. Heartbreaking though. Such a tragedy, all around. But I think it's fair to say she lived life to the fullest! May she be at peace.

I thought I saw the back of Senator Kerry's head, too! :)

7. Yes
he was in the 2nd row sitting next to Alexandra and next to her was Vicki Krnnedy and Teresa was next to her. Very nice ceremony and I hope they do leave the family alone and let them have a time to grieve.

8. Oh, thank you!
I spotted the back of his head right away and later in the service, I was pretty sure I saw Vicki Kennedy, but I didn't know about Alexandra and THK. How lovely that they were all there.

It was a very moving service and it was wonderful that you could so clearly understand who she was from listening to the loving words of her daughter and her friends.

10. Opps. Sorry Fedup. I didn't read your comment
before posting my comment. You answered my question about Vicki Kennedy though. I posted a clip that includes JK.

9. Here is a link to Cate's eulogy. (At least a part of it.)
Very moving.

JK & Alexandra can be seen in the first few seconds of the clip - JRE & JK embrace. A very touching moment. Also, it looks like Vicki Kennedy beside Alexandra. Does anyone else think so? I was out of the house today so I missed seeing the service. Maybe CSPAN will replay it at some point.

(It was Vicki Kennedy next to Alexandra, but I couldn't tell if either of the two dark haired women were Teresa - because the only shots I saw were from behind. I watched the beginning to try to see after reading your comment.) http://cspan.org/Watch/Media/2010/12/11/HP/R/41781/Friends+and+Family+Gather+to+Remember+Elizabeth+Edwards.aspx

15. I was watching it on MSNBC
and at the end JK, Alex, Vicki and Teresa got up and walked out the door that the family and friends left through. That is when I saw the four of them.
