Congratulations to Boston Councilwoman Ayanna Pressley on being named BET's Leading Women list of Trailblazers. Being up there with the First Lady MO, Oprah, Maya Angelou, Mary J. Blige, new CA AG Kamala Harris etc, that's a cool honor. :applause:

Councilor Pressley named to BET.com's Leading Women list

By Glen Johnson, Globe Staff

Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley has been named to a "Leading Women" list posted by BET.com in honor of Black History Month.

"In 2009, Pressley became the first woman of color to be elected to the Boston City Council,'' says an excerpt next to her photo. "Originally from Chicago, she started working with Massachusetts Representative Joseph Kennedy in the '90s as a constituent services representative. She then worked with Senator John Kerry as a political director."

Pressley, an at-large councilor, tweeted about the recognition.

"Humbled to be named to BET's Leading Women list of black women trailblazers," she wrote.

More:

To manage the re-election campaign, Dean has hired Courtney Wheeler, who served as the deputy campaign manager for his first mayoral election in 2007. After the general election in August, Wheeler left Nashville to attend Texas Tech School of Law where she received a law degree in 2010. For the last part of 2010, Wheeler worked at the Democratic National Committee in Washington, D.C. as the director of special projects.

In prior elections, Wheeler has served as the political director for Congressman Jim Davis’s bid for Governor of Florida in 2006, as the field director for the John Kerry for President campaign in Tennessee and Maryland in 2004 and field staff during the 2004 Iowa caucus, and she managed the legislative campaigns for Rep. Jim Hackworth and Rep. Dennis Ferguson’s Tennessee State House in 2002. Wheeler also served as political director for the Tennessee Democratic Party in 2005.
